Good PR

In an odd sort of way this made me feel encouraged that, although it is necessary to have this sort of armed presence at an event like the changing of the guard, our police officers are still people. The little lad with his London bus and wearing the policeman's cap will remember this as the good old days

For me, in the good old days, Police didn't wear body armour.
Bill Phillips: Me too Michael and all they carried was a truncheon
Cela lui fera un bon souvenir.
Bill Phillips: It certainly will be a great memory

Wouldn't it have been fun if they let him have a go with their machine guns? Obviously firing over the heads of the crowds, of course wink
Bill Phillips: I worry about you sometimes Alan

I find that the older I get the younger policeman look.
Bill Phillips: This is a common phenomenon Chad. Perhaps you also feel the years are getting shorter and people tend to mumble when they are speaking to you
I lkke the expression on the little lads face as he looks at you, he is really enjoying the moment.
Bill Phillips: I think he was quite excited Brian
Good to see, Bill, they do a great job.
Bill Phillips: They do Frank. We take them for granted!
He might even become a copper!
Bill Phillips: You never know Tom!

yes, he will

it's good to have adults who can be admired

nice capture
Bill Phillips: and it is good to be reminded that they are human beings
I appreciate this shot as a follow-up to yesterday's. the police presence to the scene was so jarring. This soothes that feeling very well.
Bill Phillips: We should not forget these people are trying to protect us and that they are also human and families of their own
compare this scene to when you were that little boy's age.

Were BOBBIES carrying assault rifles?

What will they carry when the little boy is your age Bill?
Bill Phillips: All our police carried when I was a child was a truncheon. Even now that is true of the vast majority although they do wear stab vests and carry various communication equipment. Armed officers is still the exception rather than the rule.
