Yes...I think you are right, Bill.
Bill Phillips: Thanks Ray
He's clearly disinterested...
Bill Phillips: Well he knows we won
I see what you are getting at Bill smile At the few events I have been to like this the Germans were the best dressed smile Its a cracking shot by the way!
Bill Phillips: There is something slightly unnerving about seeing a troop of WW2 German troops

They really look the part, they even have the drill right. Perhaps they are actually real. I remember the film ‘Went the day well’.
Bill Phillips: I have not seen that film. In fact I had never heard of it but looking it up makes me want to

They are not real Germans as I can see some of them smiling. Just think if we had not won WWII, these would be common sight on on our streets.
Bill Phillips: We are so lucky that did not happen and we have seen the rise of a populist right wing government who will take us out of the EU so that their supporters can line their pockets.

You are right, but these are scary!
Bill Phillips: It is a bit
They look too comfortable in the role for my liking!
Bill Phillips: Hmmm a sign of the times perhaps Tom?
Bearing in mind some heritage railways have been criticised for including psuedo German forces at their WWII weekends I wonder how they got away with this at this event, I see why you took this but I do find it somewhat disturbing to be honest.
Bill Phillips: If you are doing a re-enactment of WW2 it would be difficult not to include the Germans. The US civil war was also there and there were Confederates and confederate flags. They represent a racist view that was in favour of slavery. The Boer war where we introduced concentration camps. Where do you draw the line? The important thing is to make people aware of history, if this stimulates an interest and tells a true story then it must be a good thing. There are plenty of war films of varying quality about too.
it was only fair to include the Germans in the parade Bill... i can understand how the British soldier would feel....petersmile
Bill Phillips: It would be meaningless otherwise, but I can understand how it could be both hurtful and offensive to some
I just scared my cat with my laugh at this.
Bill Phillips: When they were actually marching towards us it was a bit creepy!
