Really great in B&W!
A very good song!
Bill Phillips: Thanks E. It's a great song. Ange has always liked Labi Siffre
Fabulous in B&W, Bill. (People like Donald Trump need to go back to where they came from!)
Bill Phillips: Apparently his father tried to go back to Germany and they wouldn't have him...he had dodged national service going to America....Hmmm that sounds like father like son grin

What a wonderful locomotive this is. Bill. Looks at those wheels.
Great song too. Very powerful.
Bill Phillips: A handsome beast although I am not overly keen on the smoke deflectors

Oh.. so that's what the fuss is about. I have to say that I don't like the smoke deflectors; it makes it look Germanic.
Bill Phillips: They don't do a lot for it

Of course I have to take back what I said yesterday. This is a wonderful image of an A3. A real racing machine looking very smart with its German style smoke deflectors..
Bill Phillips: Like Alan I am not overly keen on the smoke deflectors

A very potent song. People sometimes refer to the fact that those without anything to lose, are to stand up because they have nothing else to do. The alternative is to succumb. The song explains why people sometimes chooses not to succumb.

Mr Trump is a common schoolyard bully. He hopes that all will succumb.

Excellent picture of the scotsman. Always impressive with those huge driving wheels. I smile at the line of people, neatly in a row from old to young.
Bill Phillips: A perfect description of Trump, and of the song

I am sure that in their early days like in the 60’s when l trainspotted that A3’s didn’t have those wind shield contraptions.
Very good picture ..It must have taken an absolute age to clean and buff up.
Bill Phillips: The German style smoke deflectors were a small price to pay for the rejuvenation of the A3s. The fitting of double chimneys in the late fifties gave the locos a second wind but BR then found they had the same problem as the LNER had had with 97. The soft exhaust caused smoke and steam to hang in drifting clouds around the boiler obscuring the driver's view ahead. Four of the class had small deflector plates fitted to the top of the smokebox, as had been tried on Humorist, but these were pretty ineffective. It was, we are told, Peter Townend (the boss at 34A) who suggested trying the German style deflectors. (They are called Witte deflectors in Germany - after their designer - they replaced the earlier Wagner style, which were like a huge version of the ones fitted to the Brits) These solved the problem. The books suggest that the Witte deflectors were the most efficient. The DB fitted all their Pacifics with them as they were so much better than the original "elephant's ears".".....apparently
Good choice in doing a B&W presentation, Bill. I had never heard that song before. Thank you so much for posting it.
Bill Phillips: Pleased to have introduced you to the song Beverly
Great picture Bill, even better being in B.& W. Re the smoke deflectors I saw A3's by the dozen going through Hitchen during my spotting days in the 50's. and I only remember them having them so I actully feel they don't look right without them. As for Trump I can't imagine a hole big enough to drop this awful man in, at the same time it is very disturbing to see the way his 'supporters' are behaving.
Bill Phillips: I think most of us are appalled by Trump
