Corner Shops 1 of 2

Once a familiar sight in most of our towns and cities, the corner shop has all but disappeared. Many like this one and the one tomorrow have been turned into houses. Both of the examples here seem to be showing how not to do it.

And yes that is Ange

Cette maison a une forme originale. Jolie couleur avec les briques.
Bill Phillips: I wish they could have matched the brickwork with the rest of the house
I like the architecture of these corner buildings!
Bill Phillips: Most Victorian streets had a corner shop an most have now been turned into part of the house. This one could have been done so much better in my 'humble opinion

I like this brickstone house very much- even without corner shop. Some windows were closed.
Bill Phillips: I don't like how they have done this Philine

This is definitely how not to do it..
Bill Phillips: It doesn't work for me

It wouldn't have cost much more to retain the original brick pattern ...and made the property worth a lot more.
Bill Phillips: I agree comrade. I would have duplicated the windows too and given a better symmetry

It would have been better if they had just used one colour of brick, preferably the colour of those on the upper floor.
Bill Phillips: That would have made a big difference and they could also have copied the windows

They didn't know any better, Bill. But presumably it passed planning permission
Bill Phillips: I guess so Lisl. It just doesn't look right to me
Your reply to Richard sums up my thoughts about the corner conversion.
Bill Phillips: Thank you Brian.

I love corner buildings. WE have many in Boston as well and most are also homes now.
Bill Phillips: So do I but this one and the next one are not very well done in my humble opinion Beth grin

What a waste of opportunity.
Bill Phillips: It could have been lovely
Doesn't look Edwardian any longer.
Bill Phillips: It looks a bit of a mess to me
We lived in a corner shop, and on returning many years later that too had gone, bricked up and made into a house...
Bill Phillips: The fate of most of them I think Frank. I briefly had a girl friend whose mother ran a corner shop
i love corner architecture like this where the front is like a small tower Bill... good POV....petersmile
Bill Phillips: So do I and I wish they had done this conversion differently
