A visit to Upton upon Severn 4 of 5

Until the later half of the 20th century, the bridge at Upton was the only one across the River Severn between Worcester and Tewkesbury; the present bridge was built in 1940.Oliver Cromwell's soldiers crossed the Severn here to win the battle of Upton before the main Battle of Worcester in the English Civil War.

Low-lying areas of Upton suffered serious flooding in 2000. In the 2007 floods, levels exceeded those in 2000, and the town was inaccessible by road. The town's main built up area lies on slightly higher ground than the surrounding countryside, and becomes an island during severe floods.

A flood prevention scheme is currently being built

J'aime beaucoup la forme de l'immeuble et la petite boutique.
Bill Phillips: Upton has a number of pleasing small shops Martine
Wow! That's some high water.... It is still a very charming town, isn't it!
Bill Phillips: They have had flooding problems for many years. Hopefully the new scheme will protect the town in future

a fine montage of pictures featurig your visit in Upton upon Severn. Tewkesbury is also suffering from flooding.
Bill Phillips: It does and a few years back the flooding was very bad
Wait. Are you saying they waited until now to fix the "issue" from 2000 and 2007, Bill???
Bill Phillips: Towns along the Severn have been subject to flooding for many many years Ginnie. Centuries in fact
now that you mention, few years back also there was widespread flooding, although i cannot remember if it was the same place. i hope they come up with a plan and implement it quickly, Bill.
Bill Phillips: 2007 was the last really bad year nd a lot of work has been done along the severn in recent years . It doesn't help when they build new houses on flood plains

Nice place!
Bill Phillips: It is Anne. Very pleasant
It does look like a nice little town, in spite of the flooding!
Bill Phillips: It has been a problem for a long time but hopefully things will improve
It sounds as Upton had/has the same problems as Tewkesbury, lets hope the new defences keep the water at bay.
Bill Phillips: A lot of places along the Severn are prone to flooding...not least of all being Worcester
it's a great collage Bill and i like your story about the flooding....petersmile
Bill Phillips: The Severn floods all over the place Peter!

Well your feet may get wet but your backside would stay dry. Apart from that, it looks very pleasant.
Bill Phillips: Which is the lesser of two evils I guess
