Wightwick Manor
Victorian Tudor/Elizabethan this time. This is Wightwick Manor in Wolverhampton. Built for the Mander family in the 1890's is is a magnet for anybody who likes the arts and crafts period. Loads of William Morris wallcoverings and Burne Jones Pictures and all that lot. It is a fabulous place and well worth a visit.

Bill I am recording all of these building you present and hopefully I may be able to visit some soon
Bill Phillips: If you go on the National Trust website www.nationaltrust.org.uk you can get information on all the properties. Of course, my pictures are better than theirs
I love all the geometry in buildings with this type of architecture and design. You did a lovely job capturing it.
Bill Phillips: Thanks Jewlya. I think this house is wonderful and well worth a visit
the tone establishes the period so well and i've just realized that i can't find a single anachronism in the picture. great work Bill !
Bill Phillips: Thanks Terry. There is a "great" hall inside with a gallery as in Elizabethan times. Apparently the gallery is at the wrong end! In an Elizabethan house it would have been at the other end! It is wonderful inside and is one of my favourite houses
Gorgeous image Bill. You have done this hall proud. :o) John
Bill Phillips: Cheers John. It's a wonderful house.
Oh WOW! This looks a fabulous place Bill
Bill Phillips: It is Chris, it is. We loved it
The right choice for this one Bill, half timbered suits B&W. Looks good - perhaps a tad darker with the sky?
Bill Phillips: The sky was very washed out on the original Mike and this was the best I could do to get something out of it. It would have been better with more detail in the cloud, I'll have to have another go at it
This is the epitome of good English architecture, Bill, IMHO. I love it!
Bill Phillips: This is glorious Victorian Architecture!
Beautiful shot Bill. This is a fabulous place looks!
Bill Phillips: Thanks Richard. I love this place. It is somewhere you could imagine living
Lol at blackdog's comment about b and w. There isn't much point in having anything else with elizabethan building ;-)
goodun Bill. richard
Bill Phillips: Funnily enough this building is quite colourful. The brick is delightful and there is some lovely stained glass! Blackdog would have it it b&w if it was painted every colour on Manders' Paints old colour cards!!
It's gorgeous isn't it.
Looks to me as if the section off to the right of this picture may be a different date than the rest, is that right?
Bill Phillips: I think the house has been extended and the inside certainly was altered. It is indeed gorgeous!
Fabulous, this to me looks so 'English' the design, the very well kept garden, just such a pretty house/mansion, great B&W.
Bill Phillips: This is Victorian at its' best for me. It is a beautiful house full of William Morris and all the Arts and crafts stuff.
Not so spooky as yesterday's photo. But very nice all the same. I like the sky - it adds atmosphere.
Bill Phillips: It's not spooky at all Sheila. This is a wonderful house, I would love to have lived in it!!
nice pad you got yourself there Bill, I bet the heating is a bit pricey in winter!..
cool shot. mal
Bill Phillips: I wish!! Mind if i could afford the house I guess I could afford the heating!
Just love Elisabethan Black and Whites Bill, this is one I have not visited yet, must put it on the list. A fine image.
Bill Phillips: This is a must visit Les. We fell totally in love with it!
Has to be B&W Bill as many others have said. It makes you wonder why so many leaflets and brochures are printed in glorious colour sometimes looking at this.
Bill Phillips: It does look good in colour too, but I agree it just begs to be in b&w.
fabulous shot and conversion Bill, cries out to be framed and hung
Bill Phillips: It usually me they cry out to be hung
I remember visiting the house quite a few years ago - it's full of beautiful Pre-Raphaelite paintings and Arts and Crafts furniture. An absolutely fascinating place. It suits b/w well.
Ingrid
Bill Phillips: It is lovely and well worth a revisit!
I love the look of this place Bill. You have done it proud indeed
Bill Phillips: Not far from you Tracy, it's only Wolverhampton.
Lots of interesting design elements on these houses. B/W works well here.
Bill Phillips: This house is a gem Martin. It is Victorian at its' very best for me.
It looks like you took this in 1890 too, Bill.
Bill Phillips: Well that's fine by me! It is wearing better than I am though
Been there, done that - isn't it great? Like the B&W treatment, somehow it focuses on the style and architecture. Can you believe that I'd forgotten it was a half-timbered building?
