Helen wants some black and white so I thought I'd try some Dageurrotypes to see how they might look.

They look pretty darn good if you ask me.
Bill Phillips: I always value your comments Martin, so thanks very much
Charmingly old fashioned. Pity the people in the background though.
Bill Phillips: Thanks Jewlya...I think they will be photoshopped out in the final version!!
An interesting idea, Bill.
Bill Phillips: I quite like the effect although it is a bit muddy
This is very agreeable Bill: perhaps you could try a soupcong more yellow? Go on - have a twiddle!
Bill Phillips: Hmmm that's an idea. I have been experimenting with various colour filters in Corel so I feel a twiddle coming on!
Nice composition but a bit dark/dingy feel.
Bill Phillips: Yeah that's my thought too. On the other hand it is supposed to look about 150 years old!
Could you not get rid of the passer's by Bill, with your artistic twiddling??
Love the PP and I am sure Helen will be thrilled, I know I would
Bill Phillips: I will photoshop them out if Helen wants this one. I've done a few but she hasn't seen them yet.
Very nice idea Bill. I would yellow it a bit to make it really old!
Bill Phillips: I will try a more sepia feel. I have also been experimenting with a black filter which is quite interesting
it is a little dark for the mood in the shot, Bill. the frame is brilliant!
Bill Phillips: It will be interesting to see what Helen thinks. I'm not sure. I've done several and perhaps they will work better as a set.
This is one time when I think the frame is well chosen! You could simply crop the unwanted people out rather than going to the trouble of cloning them out.
Ingrid
Bill Phillips: Maybe but I'm not sure I want to crop the edge off the building. Worth a try though. Thanks Ingrid
You have a handsome and pretty family here together, nice job, I love it...
Bill Phillips: Thanks Astrid. Apart from Helen these are Andy's relatives. They are very nice people
Creates that timeless feel which is well appreciated by us in the 'old school' . Not so sure it would be a number one with the younger generations though. richard
Bill Phillips: Helen like b&w pictures so it will be interesting to see what she thinks.
Very old world type of photo the frame is very nice
Bill Phillips: Thanks vintage. I rather like the frame too
Perfection! If I hadn't read your words (or known what Helen looks like from previous photos) I would have assumed this was an old photo that was scanned!
Bill Phillips: Thanks Martie. The Dageurrotype dates back to the 1830's and this tool in Corel does a reasonable impersonation!
Well you did a good job here
Bill Phillips: Well thank you kindly
great picture Bill and wonderful framing
Nice conversion Bill, I would like to see it just a tad lighter.
Bill Phillips: I wanted it to look old and if it is too bright it might not quite look the part. I'm going to do some "normal" b&w and I wouldn't want them to be as dark as this. Hope the trip is going well
well executed bill
all that's left is to add some aging spots to the photo (like you did the boarder
Bill Phillips: That's something I hadn't thought of..thanks Doc
Great effort Bill, and the arrangement of the participants is really nice.
Bill Phillips: Thanks Brian.
