The Old Rectifying House
This place has seen a number of incarnations as pub and restaurant in Worcester. I don't know the origin of the name.

What a great old structure. The brick one to the right looks interesting too.
Bill Phillips: Thanks Sherri. The building on the right is interesting, but I wasn't happy with the pictures of it so will have to do them again
Everything is in a name, Bill, so one does wonder about that! What a beauty she is, so one wonders what she rectified!
Bill Phillips: I like Ingrid's idea, that it rectifies the spirit!
Great old house. It really lends itself for being a pub, like the name
Bill Phillips: It was a Greek restaurant at one time..a good one too!
Isn't it interesting just how much graffiti we put on the road. I know we need some of it but it does spoil things a little.
Bill Phillips: Agreed, but Butts makes a nice road marking!
That's a very fine picture Bill. I like the brick on the building on the right too. There used to be a branch line in Worcester to the vinegar factory. It crossed a road in town somewhere & motorists had to observe railway signals in the street
Bill Phillips: Thanks Chris. The building on the right is very nice indeed, sadly my pictures of it were not
Great building interesting name
Bill Phillips: Thanks vintage. It is a nice building. I must make the effort to find out the origin of the name
I should imagine that it rectifies the spirit - you go in down in the dumps and emerge at one with the world!
Ingrid
Bill Phillips: What a comforting thought. Thank you Ingrid
Very nice capture Bill. I really like the architecture of this house!
Bill Phillips: Thanks Richard. It is a nice building, just needs a little help!
Nice one, Bill! It's great to see old places that have been maintained. I do see that it's beginning to be a little rough around the edges, but aren't we all?
Bill Phillips: I'm very rough round the edges Martie
LOL at Chris
The building is a beauty looks old and the lighting makes it for me Bill
Bill Phillips: It needs some tlc but I have always liked the building
Bill, I know white lines on the road have suddenly become the thing of the moment (or the next few months more likely) but are you really up to challenging Chad?
The name on the building is a killer ... hee hee. richard
Bill Phillips: I would never try and rival Chad!!!!! I like the road markings...how many do you see that say Butts?
Love this house, great colours...I am surprised that the entrance/exit is so close by the road...and being a pub, a nice way to get rid of your custommers....
Bill Phillips: If you saw the speed people drive round here Astrid, you would be amazed any of their customers survive....perhaps that's why it keeps changing hands!
I don't know what the name means, but it would be nice to think that it rectified a miserable or bad mood into the happiness. Or a hungry man into a satisfied one!
Just a thought while admiring the photo. The local history museum or office might have some records or information.
Bill Phillips: They probably have, I've just never got round to finding out. It was a very good Greek restaurant for a while some years ago.
No ifs or butts in the outer lanes then Bill ;o)(
Bill Phillips: No it is strictly the butts only
LOL, must be for rectifying sobriety. A good capture of a lovely old building, Bill!
Bill Phillips: Cheers Martin! I'll drink to that
well it looks like it needs a paint job Bill but it a grand building for sure, great shot
Bill Phillips: It needs some tlc that's for sure Tim
Nice picture Bill, somehow you have boosted the colours, particulalrly the sky. Think of the fun you could have had cloning out all the horrible road markings.
Bill Phillips: Polarising filter Brian. I don't mind the road markings particularly especially the butts!
My goodness, the colours are glorious. I know you've used a filter, but this is Victorian/Edwardian at its best. I hope the place gets it's well deserved lick of paint.
By the way, what time of day was this? Where's all the traffic?
Bill Phillips: As I recall it was mid morning, there was just a momentary gap in the traffic!
A nice house in the middle of the city ... The memory of the past ...
Bill Phillips: Thank you Ann. It is very interesting
