Hooded Man 2
So this is it in Black and white. I don't like it very much at all.

I think I prefer it with a bit of color too. This is not bad at all, though.
Bill Phillips: Thanks Martin. I find this a bit flat.
The shape and texture is very nice. However, I do prefer the color version.
Bill Phillips: Thanks Red Pen. The colour is my preference. This is a bit lifeless.
I'd add a bit more juice to the greenery. Despite, I think it looks much better then the color version. I guess it's a matter of opinion. Thanks for posting it, Bill.
Z
Bill Phillips: Cheers Z. It's the different opinions that make this site so good. Always appreciate your views
I prefer the colour, thank you for letting us see the comparison.
Bill Phillips: Thanks Aussie. It's been really interesting to see all the opinions.
I agree. colour was definitely better..
Bill Phillips: Thanks Richa. The b&w just seems a bit flat.
The experiment works well, Bill, because we get to see the difference. I like the color one better, too, but that's not always the case, as you know. So this makes a great photographic lesson!
Bill Phillips: Thanks Ginnie. You sort of think this would be better in b&w but it just didn't work for me, but it does for some people. Don't you just love the variety of opinions?
Very nice reflection, I love seeing the big rivets on the bridge. The light under the bridge gives a special atmosphere to this photo. And the barge, in the background gives a quiet feeling. Many things to say on this photo !!! To conclude, I would say : I LOVE IT !!! Ann
Bill Phillips: Thanks Ann. I still prefer the colour version but you are not alone in liking the b&w.
Re: culinary comments from yesterday. Seems you have cooked this just right... This one tastes better than yesterdays. richard.
Bill Phillips: For me this is a little bland and I prefer the flavours of yesterdays. It's great to have your view Richard as always.
The colour shot wins for me Bill.
Bill Phillips: Thanks Tracy. I had a feeling it would
Very interesting to compare the two, Bill. Personally, I think I prefer the colour version this time. Lots of fabulous texture in this, all the same. (:o)
Bill Phillips: Thanks Ros. I was interested that there was so much variation in views. That's part of the reason I like this site so much
i think the dilemma was due to the pale and unkempt foliage in the background versus the sharp textures of the arch in the fore. pale wins, Bill. here, it's more about appreciating the setting despite the perspective.
Bill Phillips: Thanks Terry. It's really interesting to see everybody's opinions and the different takes. That's why I like shutter so much
I am a fan of the B&W, Bill. But I think you need to work on the tones a bit more. I wonder if you can punch up the water and those great refections as well as the dock and the boat. I DO love the darkness and tone of the overhead bridge very very much as well as the composition.
Bill Phillips: I like b&w but I didn't like this. I did a bit on the curves and sort of lost interest. In the colour version the bridge is black and I like that against the colour in the background. I really appreciate your comments Kathryn and you are spot on regards the tone. The background has gone a very flat almost uniform grey, even the highlights are muddy white.
I definitly prefer the colour one Bill
Bill Phillips: Thanks Richard so do I
I have a song up for you today, Bill.
Bill Phillips: Oooh I shall have to pop over to your site!
To be honest, I think I like the b&w better, which puts me in the minority. B&W is good for industrial (or post-industrial schenes) I find the picture frrame a bit distracting when the bridge itself makes such a good frame.
Bill Phillips: I confess I didn't bother to get rid of the frame and it isn't needed. I agree that b&w works well for industrial shots. I just didn't think it did here. It is great to have all these different opinions and I learn from them.
No, sorry but I don't like this as much as the colour version it seems to haev lost some of hte impact.
Bill Phillips: I prefer the colour too Ellie. Thanks for commenting.
Nicely done and I prefer it in B&W
Bill Phillips: Fair enough Zeb. I still prefer the colour.
