Be it ever so humble there's no place like home
This is the inside of yesterday's house. It was built using cast iron at a time when the council was looking for a quick way of building a lot of houses. The ouside is covered in cast iron plates. They only built a couple of these and discovered that brick was a lot cheaper!

Amazing. I never would have guessed. It is unlikely to blow down in a hurricane but if it did I wouldn't want to be near.
Bill Phillips: You wonder what would happen if they were struck by lightning as well!
Great shot Bill and very interseting information thanks
Bill Phillips: Thanks Tracy. I'm not usually up at this time but rarely for me can't sleep. I didn't know there was life after midnight!
Lol, some of us just don't know when to go to bed!
I really like your treatment here, I can't help but think it's almost as though Wallace and Gromit have just gone out for a minute - although perhaps it's a bit too tidy for their sitting room
Bill Phillips: Thanks Jose. I hadn't thought of W&G but I see what you mean.
This really does have a "story book" quality...I don't think W & G are the right characters, though. Pixelpixie is right - it's too tidy. There's no sign of crumbs of cheese on the floor.
I'm wondering if the rooms get very cold in the winter? Wouldn't it be like being encased in ice? Cast iron gets pretty cold!
Bill Phillips: Not even a bit of Wensleydale? You would imagine it got very hot in summer too. Thanks for dropping by
Hi Bill - I'm particularly interested in the way you've processed and framed this - its got a "feel" to it (feels like nostalgia - granny's just popped into the kitchen to get the tea and fairy cakes). Mike
Bill Phillips: It's basically just the dry brush in photoshop. The frame is the canvas size increased twice. First time with the background colour set to black and the second time I think I changed the background colour using the eyedropper to pick out one of the colours in the picture. Quick text layer and then flattened and saved as a jpeg. The nostalgic Granny's was exactly the feel I was looking for., so I'm delighted you think the same.
Very interesting Bill: thank you
Bill Phillips: You are welcome Chris.
A cast iron house. I never would have imagined!
Bill Phillips: It must be one of the dafter ideas our ancestors dreamed up!
Cast iron? I am guessing who ever lived here was not an audiophile. Can you imagine cranking up John Coltrane at his wildest in a cast iron house?
Bill Phillips: I think when this was built they probably only had a wind up gramophone with a horn!
Cast iron! OMG! The idea seems so absurd you wonder how it ever passed muster, Bill. I never would have guessed that in a hundred years!
You know me! I love the filter you used.
Bill Phillips: I know we Brits have a reputation for inventing things and being a bit eccentric, but this was pushing it even for us. I know you like these filters Ginnie. I tend to use them too much but I thought it worked for this picture.
Interesting fact, and nice treatment too.
Bill Phillips: Thanks Nigel.
Nice informative shot Bill.
Bill Phillips: Thanks Sesan.
Very nice treatment Bill. It looks like an oil painting. Thanhs for interesting information
Bill Phillips: Thanks Richard. I used the dry brush in photoshop.
This certainly has a vintage feel to it - I love the furniture and the cast iron fireplace. I wonder how warm it would be, being made of metal?
Ingrid
Bill Phillips: I'm guessing it would be cold in winter and hot in summer!
How extraordinary Bill. I guess the expansion coef of cast iron is low enough not to creak all day as the plates expand and contract with the heat of the sun.
Not surprised it didn't catch on though ;o)
Bill Phillips: It must get very hot to the touch outside on a hot day, even painted a light colour like this. It really was a weird idea.
The Black Country museum is great for photos, isn't it? I've just backtracked through your shots. Very nice collection. I especially liked the rusty chain. All the best, Dave.
Bill Phillips: Thanks Dave. It is an endless source. We hadn't been for years and I didn't realise how much it has developed. I took over 200 pictures on the day, so you might get a few more yet... well actually there's one tomorrow and....
I was right.... I was right... Who knew. Nice job. Love the processing.
Bill Phillips: You were right and Ellie was even righter..(righter?) she actually said cast iron. Glad you like the processing.
Banging on the wall at noisy neighbours would be like being inside a snare-drum. Not Iconic but IRONic! richard.
Bill Phillips: Thank you Richard..
Like very much this old aspect of the picture - Fun and fine !
Bill Phillips: Thank you Zeb
