The wheel seems to be invented in Britain - and what were we humans without the wheel - sometimes even sausages/Bratwurst look like wheels. I can imagine the noise and the oily smell in this working place when all the machines were running/am Laufen.
Bill Phillips: The Cumberland sausage comes to mind The factories were very noisy and unpleasant places to work...we look back through rose coloured glasses
The one at the back is a lathe , and I think in yesterday's we had a simple press too. I was always amazed at the ingenuity of the machines required for even simple parts.
Bill Phillips: I recall watching a big mill machine working, and wondering how people worked out how to make the machine to make the product.
