Curious-looking critters...

I like these animals, they are supposed to be fairkly docile, mind you I wouldn't pick one up!
Bill Phillips: They cn weigh up to 80kilos Brian so I don't recommend it
When I was in Brasil many years ago I came across one of these in the park in Belo Horizonte - however, it was longer-legged and more dog-like in appearance - I did not explore its nature! I had no idea what it was until my hosts explained later.
Bill Phillips: They are said to be quite tame and shy but they can weigh as much as 80kg

I've not seen the before. Are they the result of some strange mutation caused by the atrocious weather?
Bill Phillips: Capybara are a pleasant rodent native to South America
strange looking animals Bill... they look quite big to be rodents....petersmile
Bill Phillips: They are the biggest members of the rodent family and can weigh up to 80kg. Happily they are docile vegetarians
