The connection between builders and and undertakers is fairly common;; I wonder why? Lots of history in these oddments but whoever has the key does not like birds sitting on it.
Bill Phillips: perhaps because building is traditionally somewhat seasonal and uncertain whereas dying isn't. Also I guess old style builders were also carpenters so knocking up coffins was a handy sideline
