Slough

Scouring the heavens with his sister, Caroline, Sir William Herschel discovered the planet Uranus and several moons around other gas giants. In the course of his studies of the night sky, he also compiled a catalog of 2,500 celestial objects that is still in use today.

Born in Hannover he died in Slough at the age of 83.

This pub is clearly a fine memorial to an outstanding astronomer from the 18th century

Yes, Herschel sounds German, it could be a Jewish name. A fine pub which looks very English with the windows and the inn sign.
Bill Phillips: It is but his family converted to Christianity

Oh excellent that the astronomer is marked in such a way and that the pub still stands. Looks to be my sort of pub; no mention of Sky Sports.

I wonder if one day there will be a pub called the Hawking arms, not that he discovered a planet. The video is blocked in Greenland.
Bill Phillips: They could call it the Black Hole
