Slough

I have to confess I find much of Slough to be depressingly awful....apart from this.

The Curve opened I think at the end of 2016 and is a library and cultural centre. The name was chosen by local people and really what else could they have called it?

Song by Talking Heads called The Great Curve
Bill Phillips: I don't know that one. I used to quite like talking heads Larry

"The Curve" works as a name, Bill, but they should also have considered "Library McLibraryface".

Does it got any bookish stuff inside?
Bill Phillips: They probably did and they probably have (It was closed on the Sunday we were there )

Drôle de forme pour ce bâtiment.
Bill Phillips: It is certainly unusual but I found it rather attractive
I really like that building, Bill! Very cool!
Bill Phillips: So do I E

it's absolutely stunning

my first thought was, "wow", my second thought was if it was in the area where i live, straight winds or a tornado would take it down

nice that you don't have to worry about that, right ?
Bill Phillips: Tornados are as rare here as hen's teeth Sherri
WOW. Very clever...to spice the place up, Bill??
Bill Phillips: It was a pleasant surprise Ginnie

Yes this is very agreeable. Now they need to knock the rest of the ghastly place down and build more like this
Bill Phillips: Slough is no worse than many places I can think of. Rotherham, Burnley, Blackburn and Scunthorpe to name but a few.

Wow - an other extravagant library! Slough must be now an interesting, world-open city, although I never heard the name before.
Bill Phillips: Slough boasts the largest trading estate in single ownership in the whole of Europe. With 700,00 sq metres of accommodation for some 500 businesses employing 20,000 people

This is more like it. At first I thought it was just a fancy piece of curved metal about the width of an aircraft wing. but now I think it is the building itself. I thought it off that the finger post seemed very small! (Sorry, I have been ill smile )
Bill Phillips: I hope you are now fully recovered Alan

This IS a surprise, Bill. Someone building a library, instead of wanting to close one, as the Council wishes here in Bath
Bill Phillips: Like the Hive in Worcester. No doubt several local libraries were closed when this opened!

I am impressed that you have accepted a piece of contemporary architecture Bill. This is fun and a bit like something the artist Anish Kapoor might have made.
Bill Phillips: I have an open mind about buildings and if I don't like them I am not going to pretend I do.

This curved thing looks a bit thin to house a library and cultural centre.
Bill Phillips: It is wider than it looks here Louis
There is a Curve in Leicester but that is a theatre and a veryg ood oen it is.
Bill Phillips: I believe I have seen the one in Leicester Brian
What an odd building I will look it up to see other angles.
Bill Phillips: I rather like it Mary
you have presented the curve very well, Bill. no trouble giving directions to a stranger on how to reach this spot.
Bill Phillips: They would have no trouble finding it Ayush

WOW...don't you often wonder what is in the mind of these architects and what townhall wants??
I like the design and of course the name is 'the curve'... what a great imagination.
How many floors and how wide is it.
Bill Phillips: It is wider than it looks. It wasn't open so I can only guess that it is possibly 3 floors
Actually it can not be said that it is not curved, and I have to say that I do not find it so depressing it makes me think of the wing of a huge plane.
Bill Phillips: I like this building and it stands out in what has become a very depressing town

WOW! I'd say that is unique.
Bill Phillips: It is certainly a one off Bonnie
