It used to be I.C.I

On April 1st 1968 I started work in Slough, at what was then I.C.I paints division in Slough. Ange was already working there and we met for the first time on that day. This is the office block and the factory is across the road behind this building.

It looks much the same today as it did then. I believe there was some refurbishment to the building, which originally opened in 1958, a couple of years ago. . Now it is part of Akxo Nobel

I think it is quite a good building

The architecture of the day had a serious bias towards functionality.
Bill Phillips: At least this still looks in good nick unlike a lot of late 50s and early 560s buildings
A special place indeed...
Bill Phillips: Hard to believe I first walked into this building half a century ago.Little did I know it would set the course for the next 50 years of my life
It looks a lot like my old high school building
Bill Phillips: It is a bit like mine too E
It looks typical of the day, Bill...Any blue plaques?
Bill Phillips: I suppose it it. It is actually a Y shape

Surprisingly there are no blue plaques.

So this is where Ange met her young Billy
Bill Phillips: I was not quite 18!
It reminds me of a high school building, Bill, with all those windows. What a great memory for you having met Ange there!
Bill Phillips: Yes it is like that Ginnie. It was interesting to have a look at it again

In terms of contemporary architecture I think this looks fine. It was completed before things got silly and, to put it another way, cheap and nasty
Bill Phillips: It isn't a bad building at all. It is actually shaped like the letter Y

It looks a bit like the school in Münster where I was teacher. It is nice to remember the old days.
Bill Phillips: 50 years ago!

I liked this group and Gaudete in particular, it means rejoice and is traditional for Christmas. We have sung it in our choir.
Bill Phillips: I am sure you do a fine rendition

So was it love at first sight? Did your heart beat faster as your eyes met? I always smile at events and/or changes that start on All Fools Day; I would deliberate plan for any change not start on day. I was amazed to see the bands under the AkzoNobel umbrella.
Bill Phillips: Well it was for me
Nice story ,shame about the picture.
Bill Phillips: Good to see you are clearly feeling a bit better

This building makes me think of a mouth harmonica.
Bill Phillips: Hahahaha everyone else seems to be reminded of their high schools
Certainly a very 60's.style building and not unlike the school I went to either. Maureen and I met at working at the same office. Re the video the choir I was in for 17 years included this as part of the Christmas repertoire almost every year, nice to be reminded of it.
Bill Phillips: I have always liked their version of the song.
A trip down memory lane
Bill Phillips: It was Martin, mind you Slough has changed a great deal since we left way back in 1971

A building of its time - it seems to have worn well.
Bill Phillips: It looks OK. ICI were able to afford to have a decent building!
a very nice image, Bill. i like the wide view with the clouds and the building in equal measure
Bill Phillips: Thanks Ayush. It was a dull day for the most part so this was the best I could do

it must have been well constructed because it doesn't look at all in disrepair

reminds me of some of the school houses in Dayton, Ohio where i grew up
Bill Phillips: It has had some refurbishment but it is a decent building. It does have the look of a school
A set of different architectures
