photoblog image Oakham 1

Oakham 1

Here you see the historic Butter market, where in years gone by people would come from all over the tiny county of Rutland to see who had the best butt.

In the background is Oakham School a public school of note.

On a technical note. This is three images merged and normally it is neccessary to de-ghost the combined image to remove the movement of people. In this case it was not neccessary as neither of these elderly gentlemen moved. Why would that surprise anyone

Perhaps these elderly gentlemen are not men but cleverly carved wooden bollards, Bill?
Bill Phillips: but not as decorative as the other ones we see here Ray

The elderly gent on the right looks suitably confused. Maybe he is wondering just where he has left his camera?
Bill Phillips: or is wishing he had his glasses

What a wonderful scene; England at its best. The Antony Gormley statues add to the scene. I especially like the damp flagstones and the Butter Cross itself.
Bill Phillips: Gormless more like
I can see me, I can see me! Actually this is a very nice photograph.
Bill Phillips: It is a very nice photograph
All the young maidens were being kept in doors.
Bill Phillips: They are wise folk in Oakham
The photo oozes dampness. We have an old butter factory in my community. It is a residence now.
Bill Phillips: It was quite damp Mary
We've been through Oakham countless times over the years going to and from my parents at weekends before they died and have never stopped to have a look around, one day we will go there for the day because it does look an interesting little town.
Bill Phillips: Worth a visit Brian.

I like some installation art....
Bill Phillips: and some is just a blot on the landscape Frank
I guess they must be examples of those rather life-like statues one sees in various cities.
Bill Phillips: Life like?
