This is wonderful, Bill!
Bill Phillips: Back in the days when if your radio went wrong you just went and bought a new valve
Ah, this takes me back, I always thought valves were little works of art, I wish I'd kept some now.
Bill Phillips: Reminds me of Tony Hancock and the radio ham

this is a cool shot, Bill.
Bill Phillips: Thank you Ayush
Is that what we would call a tube? Glass and somewhat like a lightbulb?
Bill Phillips: Sounds like it. They were used in radios and amplifiers before the days of transistors
My dad would have said these are what was used in the days of 'steam radio'!
Bill Phillips: My dad used to call it steam radio too....I have no idea why

I knew Frank would be in his element. There was a Mullard factory in Southampton, then it became Phlips and now is a UPS depot sad I can recall my early college days when we learning about some new fangled things called "transistors". I believe you can still get valve hifi amplifiers.
Bill Phillips: I think the purists would say that the sound quality is better. I think that is probably true. The sound was warmer and more mellow. Yes you can still get them
it's my guess that these radio valves are what we called radio or television electric tubes in America...

he has quite a collection of unsalable inventory Bill...
but is sure makes for a great picture....petersmile
Bill Phillips: Yes they are the same Peter. You can still buy valve amps so perhaps these might still have a market
a bygone era, one I wish I could have experienced directly...
Bill Phillips: Well you can because you can still buy valve amps
My goodness are they really old wireless valves?
