Larger folks can, presumably, lift an arm-rest and place a buttock comfortably on each of the two available cushions...way to go!
Bill Phillips: Those would be some buttocks to fill two of these. Even that woman with the big butt would fit in one
Such a cosy and confortable place Bill!
Bill Phillips: So different from the modern ones

Oh yes, very proper and comfy!
Bill Phillips: They were indeed Philine.
You should install seats like this in your car Bill.
Bill Phillips: I have seats like this already. And a communication cord

Of heavens yes!
Bill Phillips: Just think of the films that couldn't be made now without them...
I have to agree with you .
Bill Phillips: They were wonderful. They were also comfortable unlike most modern coaches

We have still corridor coaches like this one in our country.
Bill Phillips: I don't know if they are still used on our national railway system but they wouldn't have the charm of these.
This looks very cozy, Bill. Think of all the scenarios that could occur here.
Bill Phillips: A whole lot of stories
Ah, yes, we haven't exactly progressed have we, and you know how to get one of these to yourself...You just invited anyone who slid open the door to" come on in! I would love some company" being English, they would beat a hasty retreat!
Bill Phillips: Hahaha very true!

... And how the door would sometimes slide open when the train braked.
Bill Phillips: Never sit be the door or you had to get up and shut it.

Ah yes, much more civilised than the open coaches of today. Less likely to be in earshot of the "wrong sort, don't you know"!
Bill Phillips: Absolutely old bean
Complete with the lovely wood and pictures above the seats, those were the days. Back in 2003 we travelled in an Italian train, in a compartment like this, from Munich to Verona, with the air conditioning it was one of the best train rides I've ever had.
Bill Phillips: I can imagine you loving every minute Brian

Have just read Frank's comment - when we were going on holiday my clergyman father always travelled with his dog collar on - that always seemed to put people off sharing the carriage smile
Bill Phillips: Hahaha I can imagine.

Brings back memories, Bill - I thought you would have been too young!
Bill Phillips: You flatter me Lisl. But flattery is OK as long as you don't inhale
First Class in every respect, better days in many respects.
Bill Phillips: I think the post war generation had the best of a lot of things Martin
rather luxurious Bill... they don't make them like that anymore....petersmile
Oh my - now that's style!
