i've never seen a locomotive with the front of the boiler open... it reminds me of a very nice looking cannon....petersmile
Bill Phillips: You wouldn't want the job of cleaning out that smokebox Peter

Yes...I doubt Kinlet Hall ever looked this good previously.
Bill Phillips: Halls were the workhorses of the old Western region and I don't remember them ever looking this good!
Ooooo.
Bill Phillips: I was brought up on Western region trains and they are still my favourites
That's a very pretty engine! (Can I say that? Can I say pretty and engine in the same sentence?)
Bill Phillips: Yes you can say that. But only because it is your birthday grin

I bet she has never been so pampered in her long life..
Bill Phillips: Almost certainly not, although in her early days on the GWR she might have been. She looks pretty good for an 86 year old!
Can you imagine that being your job, Bill, if you were still working?! smile
Bill Phillips: I would be quite happy Ginnie

First I thought of a model locomotive but then I saw the man and the ladder! A lovely old lady!
Bill Phillips: Very real and 86 years old Philine
Look at this beauty! Superb image Bill.
Bill Phillips: The Great Western Engines are my favourites Richard

Pampered more than ever before, Bill
Bill Phillips: Well she is 86 and deserves it Lisl
I think the ladder and the guy add a nice touch to the image.
Bill Phillips: Thank you Jacquelyn, so do I

A lot of polishing has gone on there, Bill.
Bill Phillips: More fun than cleaning your car!
This looks like a cannon instead of a train. It is sure polished and shined.
Bill Phillips: Hahaha. She is in wonderful condition, I should look as good when I am 86!
They have done a good job Bill. I haven't seen one with the front open before
Bill Phillips: It is normally only open when they are being cleaned out... a very mucky job!

A fine tribute the the men (amd perhaps ladies) who look after her. I'm a Southern man, though although can be tempted by LNER...
Bill Phillips: I am a fan of the Bulleid pacific but for sheer class you can't beat GWR!
I have never seen the boiler door open on a train before. Thank you for showing me this Bill.
Bill Phillips: That is the smokebox door. Tiff can tell you all about it over a cup of coffee
As an LNER man I will admit she looks a fine engine, she really does shine. I thought when I was at Minehead that spot is an ideal one for taking pictures of locos on shed, they changed quite regularly during the few days we were there.
Bill Phillips: There are so many fine locomotives. I guess where you were brought up does influence your view!
Is that graffiti art...?
Bill Phillips: Just a reflection Larry.

Even the ladder is polished - what a job!
It probably IS a canon for a human canonball, cunningly disguised as a steam engine!
