A new lease of life

About 30 pubs are closing own every week. Here a local in Worcester is being turned into apartments (flats in real English) I like that they have kept the lamp and name and the old brewery sign

Bill Phillips: In Worcester that would not surprise me Larry

It's a pity that the pubs closed - called pub- dying - the flats might be expensive or available for young people as wished by the Government?
Bill Phillips: About 30 are closing every week. Pubs like this are just not viable these days. This seems a good way of using the property

Well it's better than razing them to the ground isn't it..
Bill Phillips: Indeed, especially when this was in a terrace
I agree with you about the lamp and the sign Bill. Is the new generation drinking less?
Bill Phillips: Sadly no Richard but the sale of cheap drink by supermarkets and the fact that most adults like to eat if they go out, means that these little locals with no parking are closing in large numbers

I like the light and the sign, too. I wonder if they will get people turning up expecting it to be a pub? I forget the last time I went to a pub just to have a drink; it's always now for a meal with the drink incidental ( or non-existent if I'm driving).
Bill Phillips: You have summed up why pubs like this are closing down in droves alan

Does look rather fine. I always recall the slum clearances in Salford. They alwYs left the corner pub and the church like a couple of remaining teeth.
Bill Phillips: I read that something like 30 pubs a week are closing.

What has happened to social housing ..... ?
Bill Phillips: A step in the right direction but I doubt this is social grin
I can hear the conversation:

My mom and dad live at the Barbourne.

Oh, they're drunks are they?
Bill Phillips: Hahahaha I wonder if the smell of beer is embedded in the walls?

I think it needs to retain its licence, Bill...a pub with no beer is an abomination!
Bill Phillips: There are simply too many pubs Ray......times change. We drink more than ever in the UK but not in pubs like this
What a good idea, there are so many empty pubs about the housing crisis would be well on the way to being solved if this was done to all of them.
Bill Phillips: I think this is a very good idea. Another pub near Worcester is being changed into a shop
Yes a good reminder of how things used to be
Bill Phillips: It is a sign that times have changed Janet
Looks like a pretty reSonable conversion job
Bill Phillips: It does Tom. I would like to see the inside when it is finished
I appreciate that they're at least doing something with it. I like that they've kept it's character!
