photoblog image The Friday Market

The Friday Market

Droiters is trying a Friday market. It is early days but there were a few folk about.

It took me a long time to get hold of a copy of the album this song is from. It is still a song I like very much and has nothing at all to do with the picture

and enjoyed that beautiful song by Kathy Fisher....petersmile
Bill Phillips: She is an underrated singer Peter. She doe a lot of jingle work apparently
A few early birds around...Lovely perspective Bill!
Bill Phillips: It seems quite busy when I have been down later in the day. Don't know if it will last. We have a monthly farmer's market too
A Friday market. Hmmmm. We have a Monday market AND a Saturday market, Bill, just a couple blocks away from us here in Gorinchem. I actually have grown quite fond of the European markets, wherever we go here.
Bill Phillips: We have a monthly Farmer's market as well as this one Ginnie.

Do you think it will catch on, Bill?
Bill Phillips: Don't see why not. The monthly farmer's market has been going for a long time, and where Waitrose is now used to be a covered market

Great shot and you were the early bird here. I wonder if it catches on. Here in Gorinchem the Monday market really got less and less merchants over the years. Now it it maybe half of what it used to be sad
I wish them well.
Bill Phillips: I don't think it will ever be big but it adds something to the life of the town Lady P

and no book sale? We have two big markets at the Cathedral - on Wednesday and on Saturday- and on Friday a bio market. Much success for Droitwich!
Bill Phillips: Thank you Philine. We hold our book sale on the same day as the Farmer's market, which is the first Saturday of the month.

Stretches further than our Halesworth market which happens to be on a Wednesday ... So you know what you will be doing on a certain Wednesday in April.
Bill Phillips: Sounds like a reasonable idea comrade
I enjoyed the music while perusing what I could at the market.
Bill Phillips: I have a couple more of the market next week Mary. I thought you might like the song
Droiters is a lovely affectionate name for the old salt and rain sodden town Bill. All you need here is a few customers.
Bill Phillips: Well I am an old salt and rain sodden resident Chad

Early morning at the market. Hard work to prepare and the bantering of the stall keepers.
Bill Phillips: They work hard....I know what hard work it is doing our book sale and that is only once a month!

Hope it is a success.

Lovely song
Bill Phillips: I think it might be. Pleased you like the song
I hope the market works out Bill. Friday is market day in Shepshed but sadly it has faded to sometime only one greengrocery stall.
Bill Phillips: We have had a Farmer's market for many years now Brian on the first Saturday of the month. We used to have a covered market until they knocked it down to build Waitrose So I hope it does survive

There won't be another market unless business picks up, Bill.
Bill Phillips: It got busier Ray
Hope all goes well for them. I think markets are an asset to towns. Nice shot Bill
Bill Phillips: I agree Janet, although I don't actually use them much!

No boats or bikes, but plenty of Banana Boxes. Now a Banana Boat - that would be something.

Might help if they sold things that people wanted!
Bill Phillips: That would be a novel concept for a British business Mike grin

I like looking around markets but rarely buy anything. That said, I used to get my fruit and veg from a market but now I'm more time poor so it;s a one stop shop at a supermarket. Did you buy any toilet rolls?
Bill Phillips: Nor do I, and no I didn't
I like this image of the Friday market!

And I LOVE this song... very poignant.
Bill Phillips: Yea I had a feeling you would like this song, apparently it is a tribute to Brent Mydland, the late keyboardist of the Grateful Dead
