Back to Basics

https://www.flickr.com/photos/figgis-minor/15173726398/

This was the rallying call of John Major in 1993. a call to return to good old fashioned values. Sadly it was followed by a string of revelations about the activities of various government ministers. Even old John Major himself had being having a bit of rumpy pumpy according to a certain  lady who was at one time responsible for the ministry of eggs.

We now have a Prime minister who bangs on about hard working people. He, of course, has inherited large sums of money and probably never needs to work again

Love those modesty wings, Bill...
Bill Phillips: Makes comparing notes more difficult Ray
I'd have to be desperate, Bill.....
Bill Phillips: Actually they were perfectly clean Frank....hard to believe I know grin
Very basic...
Don't get me started on politicians... smile
Bill Phillips: Hehehe not a good time to be a democrat in the US. Still the republicans will have to actually do something now they control both houses...which could be interesting

I think your Prime Minister has a direct phone-line with our Prime Minister...
Back to basic, like Elizabeth, don't get me started, that is not good for my blood-pressure, I like to keep it within the safe-range.....
We ladies are all alone in the toilet, you men can have all kinds of conversations....(and compare grin and brag about it tongue) oops... did I say that grin.
Bill Phillips: Hahahaha you are very naughty Lady P
Politicians are the same worldwide Bill, aren't they?
Not for me thanks...
Bill Phillips: Sadly they are Richard

I appreciate your commentary, Bill, and your picture does represent your title. I thought it was going to be a series on loos from the thumbnail
Bill Phillips: I have been tempted to do a series on great loos of the UK but I suspect I would run the risk of being arrested!

This is very basic but essential. I will leave you to comment as to whether D Cameron is in the same category
Bill Phillips: I think he just falls into the Prat category

I'm totally confused - may, it is too early - are these cabins pissoirs for men? The green gadget reminds me of my former toilet -water bucket.
We can read articles about DC every day in our newspapers.
Bill Phillips: They are indeed Philine with an old style high level cistern, painted in a fetching shade of green.

DC flip flops about in fear of UKIP and is a very weak leader
And here I thought we were off to the horse races, Bill!!! grin
Bill Phillips: Hahahaha I see what you mean Ginnie

Apropos DC: Yes, he is now in a politically difficult situation - but he can refer to some economical success - the business in GB is booming according to our newspapers! I'm afraid DC enhances too much the 'splendid isolation' of the great island, sorry, from my continental point of view. Angela Merkel seems to have some influence on his personality.
Bill Phillips: The boom here is not benefiting many people. Most of the jobs created are at minimum wage so they don't earn enough to pay tax. The vast majority have seen their real incomes fall in the last 6 years or so. Hence the rise of ludicrous right wing populist parties like UKIP.
Yuck is all I can say. Thank goodness some things have moved on a bit.
Bill Phillips: It was actually clean but the colour scheme does nothing for it!

I have memories of my old school toilet looking something like this. It's heartening that Mr Cameron is recognising my efforts; I look forward to seeing this reflected in my salary.
Bill Phillips: The way it works with DC is that you get made redundant to save money but are delighted to go back as a volunteer and work tirelessly unpaid

We had a loo like this at one school and it was outside and freezing in winter.

Eye! Well that is a bit basic - I prefer a nice bit of white porcelain myself. Mind you they do have one of those really irritating towel dispensers. I thought they went to the garbage heap with cassette tapes.
Bill Phillips: I love the old roller towels....guaranteed to jam!
What are we looking at though? Is this a bathroom?
Bill Phillips: This is an old fashioned public men's toilets at the station at Corfe Castle. It was actually very clean but it isn't very pretty grin

I confidently heard it in the bogs that the British press tried to help John Major's image last year by hinting at a little hanky-panky on the side.

What I never understand is, when you had/have something on the side, why do people accept top political appointments in the UK. The ponies will sniff it out, as sure as if they were bloodhounds.

Look at our president. With quite a history of hanky panky, he became president and the only comment is that local cartoonists draw him with a shower head installed on his head.

This ends my contribution to bog stories today.
Bill Phillips: Hahaha John Major was about the most implausible philanderer but then he was only made leader on the assumption that the tories were going to lose the 1992 election and somehow he managed to win! Helped probably by the fact that the Welsh windbag Neil Kinnock was leader of the labour party
it would be tough for the plumber to take a look at the water tank if something needed fiing, Bill. nice photo opportunity. you would have looked a bit suspicious emerging from a washroom with a camera in your hands!
Bill Phillips: I hadn't thought of that. That type of cistern was commonplace in the UK when I was a kid!

That is why I have never done a series!
Goodness gracious this is a really old loo isn't it, I'm not surprised some of the lady viewers are somewhat perplexed as to its purpose. I won't start on DC., or the Cleggster but please, oh please, don't let us be saddled with 'Little Ed', surely the most unlikely person one could imagine leading this country both here and internationally!
Bill Phillips: It is in keeping with the period Brian. Now calm down I don't want to be responsible for your blood pressure rising
Looks as though it was built about the same time as Corfe Castle, Bill.
Love Ayush's comment.
Bill Phillips: A bit more modern than that PAuline grin

I enjoyed Ayush's comment too
You spared our blushes with them not being in use at the time Bill
Bill Phillips: Well of course Janet!
Pretty basic!
Bill Phillips: When in need......

It's always do as I say and never do as I do. I like old fashioned urinals. Am I getting shorter or are new urinals getting higher?
