photoblog image A thingy.

A thingy.

Now a bit of technical information. After all this is supposed to be a photo blog. I bought a 50mm F1.7 SMC-Pentax  M lens on Ebay . It is in lovely condition. Now the thing is that it has to be focussed manually as there are no electronic connections. But it is a fast lens and at f2 capable of decent results. So I poked it inside the cab of a locomotive at f2 and twiddled with the focus as best I could (it was very dark) and took this. So there you go. I rather like the result. I know some will mock but what the heck...it only cost thirty quid

Bill Phillips: It is a bit of fun and the results are a bit of a lottery which is fun too!

I'm not mocking at all, a 50mm F1.7 lens I would have thought to be an expensive & good piece of equipment.

Nice picture
Bill Phillips: A new 50mm 1.8 Pentax lens would cost over a hundred quid and a 1.4 one would be 300.

What a wonderful result - great image!
Bill Phillips: Thank you Philine. I will be having a play again with this lens sometime
Nothing wrong with using a M/F lens Bill, it's the end result that counts and you did well. I have a Pentax M/F 28mm you can have if you want it.
Bill Phillips: Yes please grin
That's a beautiful thingy, Bill.
Bill Phillips: It is, whatever it is
I have lens envy.
Bill Phillips: Hahaha It was lovely having a nice old bit of glass!
Nothing to mock about Bill. I quite like the result! It was worth buying this lens.
Bill Phillips: It is a decent bit of glass..my eyesight is the problem grin
Yes a very good close-up Bill.
Bill Phillips: Thanks Brian
I really like this, Bill - nicely done!
Bill Phillips: Thanks E
