Droitwich Lions Club 3

Guiding Lion

New Lions Clubs are started, usually, by a neighbouring club identifying an area where a club could be. Bromgsgrove, 6 miles from Droitwich decided that they could start a club in the town which was expanding. There was a club in Worcester and Droitwich was halfway between it and Bromsgrove.  So the chap above who lived in Droitwich but was a member of Bromsgrove became what is known as the guiding Lion.

Alec Little was a legend. He was a maverick who could be both infuriating and loveable. His wife Gwen was one of the nicest people I have known. Sadly neither of them is still with us but I have many memories of them.

I am guessing his guiding was best when he was infuriating, Bill.
Bill Phillips: We used to get him going because we largely ignored what he told us and did our own thing!
these are great memories that you are sharing with us Bill... thanks....petersmile
Bill Phillips: Delighted you are enjoying them Peter
Lucky for all of us we have photos for memories... I'm glad you have this!
Bill Phillips: They are vital E. We forget so much

I'd love to know what all the badges are for
Bill Phillips: Alec was a collector of badges. Lions being American in origin seems to love badges for all sorts of things. If you introduce a new member to the club next thing you know you get sent a badge. I have a number of badges and they are mostly still in the wrapper in a drawer
He clearly relished his role, Bill, and made what appears to be a good impression. As Elizabeth said, lucky for us that we have the photos.
Bill Phillips: He was a bit of a Maverick Ginnie. He could be infuriating but I loved the guy really!

A maverick lion, eh? But what lot of good he must have done
Bill Phillips: Oh he did, and he liked his own way!
Great memories for some of you Bill!
Bill Phillips: Some of us remember Alec well, to be honest if you knew him you are unlikely to forget him!
He looks like a great guy.
Bill Phillips: He was Mary. A great character. It is many years now since he died but I will always remember him with great affection

A man who clearly took pride in being a member and wasn't afraid to show it.
Bill Phillips: He did Mike. He was a great enthusiast and if not for him I suppose I would never have joined Lions

All badged up and ready to go. I think I see an elf and a baby penguin amongst the badges. Must be his loveable side doing that.
Bill Phillips: When he died his family gave this jacket to the club.
He's a very jolly looking chap......a fine portrait Bill smile
Bill Phillips: He was a very jolly chap.....most of the timegrin
loving this Bill!
Bill Phillips: That's great Ronky thank you
A look of Bobby Charlton.
Bill Phillips: Actually I can see what you mean Mickgrin
Looks a character smile
Bill Phillips: He was John!
I guess such organisations like things to be done in a certain way, the W.I.is very much like that with people coming from County H.Q.etc.to give their guidance over this, that and the other!
Bill Phillips: We don't take any notice
