It seems we have at least £42 billion lined up to build a railway line that will shorten the journey time from North to South of our huge country but haven't got a few quid to mend the main road through Bromsgrove

Is that a Blockbuster store I spy? They are closing up in the USA...
Bill Phillips: Same here Larry. There was an attempt to save them but that has failed too I believe
Poor Bromsgrove.
That is the most bizarre video I've seen in a long time. It's like everyone's taken 20mg of Valium or something!
Bill Phillips: This was a group from the era of what was called glam rock. They were awful but very successful
i wasn't looking at the road Bill... it's the building on the right that caught my eye... and the way that you captured the sun around the bend....petersmile
Bill Phillips: It is quite an attractive frontage.I don't know how old it actually is
i really like the clean looking feel of the image, the building and upwards
Bill Phillips: Thank you very much Ayush

What a contrast of old and new - I love the timber- framed house, unusual timber work? - but the modern house vis-a-vis has the noble name: George House! It is surely Sunday like in Droitwich - and sun -day indeed! Worcestershire must be the sunniest area of GB!
Bill Phillips: The name may be noble but the building isn't. I don't know how genuine the building opposite is

You do worry about a few potholes Billiam .... I think the black and white building has a rather crude pseudo frontage.
Bill Phillips: I think you are probably right Comrade
You and your fellow Kitty Cat club members could put a few days manual labour in and sort out the roads.
Bill Phillips: You need a holiday

Interesting isn't it to see that vernacular b&w house style coming as far south as this. I see there are fleur de lys incorporated into this one
Bill Phillips: It rather looks as if the black bits were stuck on. I don't know if it has any age to it at all

£42 billion is just a starting point. It would go a long way, though, in maintaining the existing roads. Don't get me started on HS2 - something only the wealthy will be able to afford to travel on!! I like the black and white building.
Bill Phillips: I don't think the black and white is very authentic. But nor is HS2

Bob Dylan said that Abraham Lincoln said that you can't please all of the people all of the time Bill. I presume that we are looking at the, now defunct, Blockbusters. That black and white building looks lovely and you have taken this photograph well. I always thought that all Midland towns were just dumps but, you are showing Bromsgrove to not fit that category.
Bill Phillips: Rick Nelson said something similar in his song Garden Party. I am worried that Bromsgrove seems to have appeal

Such a true comment in all areas, Bill
Bill Phillips: There seems to be a lack of enthusiasm for HS2

Sorry - I meant to add in my comment that you can see from your favourable glimpses what a fine old town this is
Bill Phillips: no it isn't!!!
So true, Bill. Very apt through out the country.
Bill Phillips: They are actually resurfacing part of the main road through Droitwich today and tomorrow. So nice traffic chaos for a couple of days

Looks like everyone has left in disgust!
Bill Phillips: Would you blame them?
Hope it happens...its usually about this time of year that they start digging!
Bill Phillips: Funnily enough for the next two days the main road through Droitwich will be shut for resurfacing grin

Love that light at the end of the road.

I did mean to say that it looks a very attractive town and George House looks could be named after our patron saint.
Bill Phillips: What George Osborne?
To be honest this series is one of your best.
Bill Phillips: The people of Bromsgrove would probably agree
If you want to see roads in really bad repair, Bill, come to Quebec. Due to the extreme temperatures we experience, our roads develop some hair-raising potholes. This main road through Bromsgrove would be considered in not that bad of a condition in our part of the woods.
Bill Phillips: We get the potholes but not the extreme temperatures grin
I see what you mean about Bromsgrove now, not the most inviting of views in this picture, including the pseudo wall on the right. Re HS2 I guess by the time it's up and running we will be too old to travel on it, assuming we are still around.
Bill Phillips: I can't imagine ever going on it
A very nice looking place though Bill!
Nice image Bill. My father once said we live in the age of bullshit, but it seems more like the age of stupidity to me. The road in front of my house had a pothole that was duly marked in white for repair. When the workmen came to repair it they only worked to the area of the white lines, ignoring the fact that the road was breaking up either side of the marked area, which of course means the repair won't last the winter. Seems that tax payers money is only there to be wasted.
