Gheluvelt Park Worcester

Opened in 1922 as a memorial to the men of the Worcestershire regiment who fought at the battle of Gheluvelt in WW1. Now it seems a million miles away from war and is a great place for families to enjoy a sunny day.

And so the war fades away... at least for some...
Bill Phillips: But we still find plenty of new ones to take the place....
A really touching place, beautifully landscaped and photographed. Love that PS song too - very well chosen
Bill Phillips: It is a very nice park and is just round the corner from where my daughter lives, so little Joseph is going to spend a lot of time heresmile
This is a beautiful tranquil place and a fine tribute to Worcestershire Regiment... that war was such a long time ago Bill... and man has still not learned anything from it....petersmile
Bill Phillips: Yes indeed Peter, and next year marks the 100th anniversary of the start of WW1

Those old fashioned bandstands are fine things and this one fits in well amid the serenity of sun-drenched Worcester doesn't it
Bill Phillips: It does indeed. I have never heard a band there but I believe they do have them

It warms my heart to see that Chris appreciated this one, Bill
Bill Phillips: That is because it is Worcester. There is a similar bandstand in Droitwich but he would have made some remark about it being a storm shelter

This is what the end of war is supposed to look like, Bill!!! Will we ever learn?
Bill Phillips: Sadly we won't Ginnie

Wonderful place to relax and enjoy. I love your POV. Great colours.

Bill Phillips: It is said that defeat at Gheluvelt could have led to defeat in WW1. There is an interesting memorial in the park which I would like to show you....perhaps next year

Yes, a park just created to recreate there and to forget all the troubles and sorrows - I like the blue reflections of the sky in the pond! Wuster owns quite more than the world-famous Sauce, indeed!
Bill Phillips: True Philine. The faithful city from the time of the civil war (although I believe it wasn't quite as faithful as you be led to believe) A fine Cathedral where King John is laid to rest and a number of fine buildings, not including the Hive which I detest. The cricket ground has great charm despite the redevelopment which has been a necessary evil to survive.

A bit strong on contrasting - but still a good one. Iy must be something when a band plays on that stand.
Bill Phillips: Indeed. I have been to a concert from the bandstand in Droitwich but not this one.

Beautiful place
Bill Phillips: It is very pleasant Aussie. Our Helen lives close by and I think she will spend a lot of time there as her new son grows!

Bill Phillips: That would be the you tube clip smile

This is the best I can find but the version I like is Bill Bourne singing it instead of the woman. I have it on mp3.

Bill Phillips: She isn't my kind of singer Mary. A bit self consciously meaningful
Looks a pleasant place to relax - I do like your treatment BIll; is this using Lightroom? smile
Bill Phillips: Photomatix Pro and Lightroom Martin. It is a very nice park and our Helen is lucky to have it virtually on her doorstep
Weeping willow trees are so graceful, such a peaceful looking place.
Bill Phillips: A lovely tree in the right place like this. I am not keen on them in gardens as I wonder where the roots might go!
I think this is a fine bandstand, especially with it being in the middle of a lake, bit of a nuisance if ones music blows away though.
Bill Phillips: Water music perhaps Brian?

It looks such a tranquil place
Bill Phillips: It is a very pleasant park Anne. Good place for families
Nice to see that this beautiful place is so well looked after Bill!
Bill Phillips: It is a lovely park Richard and our daughter lives just round the corner from it
A lovely spot to enjoy the day. Do they ever have small bands playing tunes under the pergola?
Bill Phillips: There are Brass Band concerts here in the summer
Lovely shot, Bill, nicely processed.
Bill Phillips: Thanks tom. It is one of the nicer bits of Worcester
