Nicola Adams

Britains Olympic Boxing gold medallist was a special guest at the opening of the new Droitwich Spa Boxing Club premises on Friday November the 8th. Nicola is the lady on the left although the lady on the right is no mean boxer either and is one of the team who worked tirelessly to bring the building into being.

This is a wonderful portrait of very special people Bill...
it must have been an honour to have Nicola Adams there for the opening the Droitwich Spa Boxing Club!
We are both doing sports heroes this weekend....petersmile
Bill Phillips: Indeed Peter. Both of them fine role models
Great smiles all around...
Bill Phillips: It was a happy occasion and the culmination of a long hard struggle for those involved

Nicola Adams' performance was, for me, one of the highlights of the 2012 Olympics, Bill.
Bill Phillips: She was a great credit to her sport and this country Ray. She is a lovely girl
A wonderful thing, and a wonderful shot! Though I'll never understand boxing...
Bill Phillips: Boxing has helped many youngsters gain self respect and kept them out of trouble. I have never fancied doing it but I can admire the skill of those who do.

A fine picture: amateur boxing is a good facility for a town to have
Bill Phillips: The club has existed for many years thanks mainly to a chap called Chris Andrews who started it in about 1973. Their old premises was clapped out and the site is due to be redeveloped so he set about raising the money for a new one. The fact that both Nicola and Rob McCracken (The performance director of the British Olympic team) were there shows how highly the club is held in boxing circles. It is a far cry from the sweaty back street gyms of legend and they do exercise classes, so you don't even have to get punched in the nose to take part!

I'm not keen on boxing but I do appreciate the efforts of others who bring things like this into being so that other people can enjoy. Great to have the support from an Olympic champion.

Most of Scumsville's fighting takes place in the Great Outdoors on a Friday or Saturday night.

Having their boxing hero on hand for the opening would be very inspiring for the young boxers. Good on Droitwich!
I agree with your reply to Elizabeth even though it is not one of my favourite sports to watch. A great day for Droitwich and the club members, but both these young ladies look far to attractive to box don't they.
Very nice portrait of these happy people Bill!
Exciting times Billiam
Fine portraits, Bill!
