photoblog image A Policeman's lot

A Policeman's lot

WHEN A FELON'S NOT ENGAGED IN HIS EMPLOYMENT (his employment)
OR MATURING HIS FELONIOUS LITTLE PLANS (little plans)
HIS CAPACITY FOR INNOCENT ENJOYMENT (-cent enjoyment)
IS JUST AS GREAT AS ANY HONEST MAN'S (honest mans)
OUR FEELINGS WE WITH DIFFICULTY SMOTHER (-culty smother)
WHEN CONSTABULARY DUTY'S TO BE DONE (to be done)
AH, TAKE ONE CONSIDERATION WITH ANOTHER (with another)
A POLICEMAN'S LOT IS NOT A HAPPY ONE
AHHH WHEN CONSTABULARY DUTY'S TO BE DONE, TO BE DONE,
A POLICEMAN'S LOT IS NOT A HAPPY ONE.

Interesting display of policemen's hats. I have always admired the one in the middle and the far right.

Reminds me of a an episode of Thin Blue Line with Rowan Atkins smile

I'll take the middle hat Bill... thanks for the song....petersmile

The British Bobby is a fine, noble institution I have some lovely memories of - in London when I didn't know the way, "your friend and helper" he was ...but he seems to be dying out? -for when did I see a policeman wearing such a beautiful hat in the last time?
Have you written and sung this fine poem?
Bill Phillips: It is from The Pirates of Penzance by Gilbert and Sullivan Philine.
Try not to get arrested before a week on Friday, I am looking forward to our coffee and cake.
Bill Phillips: I'll do my best. I would hate to miss it too!

Very good Bill. I am feeling in complimentary mood as I have just been treated to a splendid breakfast and am so pleased to be in Dutchland.

WHEN THE ENTERPRISING BURGLARS NOT A'BURGLING (not a'burgling)
WHEN THE CUT THROAT ISN'T OCCUPIED IN CRIME (-pied in crime)
HE LOVES TO HEAR THE LITTLE BROOK A'GURGLING (brook a'gurgling)
AND LISTEN TO THE MERRY VILLAGE CHIME (village chime)

A shame that we need riot helmets these days.
Bill Phillips: True. Great song though
I certainly don't envy them, Bill!
Bill Phillips: Nor I. A thankless task

Oh b**g*r, I wish I hadn't read this, I've sung this song so many times it will stick in my mind all day, and then Mr.Rolfe adds the next verse to make it worse!! BTW my daughter and S.I.L.are police officers although they wear more modern styled hats rather than helmets.
Bill Phillips: I know they are. Pirates of Penzance is great fun
Hahaha... I was the choreographer for a really fun production of > The Pirates of Penzance > many years ago. I'll not only be singing this all day > but the dance routine will swirl around in my mind too. ... Nice collection of hats.
Bill Phillips: It is a great favourite. I bet you have happy memories of putting on a production of it Jacquelyn
Not an easy job Bill! They deserve an hommage sometimes...
Fine capture.
Did they supply hard balls to throw at them, would make a change to coconuts smile
