Ely Cathedral

On Thursday Ange and I had the pleasure of meeting with Graeme Hubbard in Ely. He showed us the place he took his splendid picture of the Cathedral from. The tea rooms do a very nice Teacake.

PS Yes it was a toilet yesterday

Is that Graeme, lurking over there in the bushes?
Bill Phillips: I think it is a statue Ray
It is beautiful isn't it! I love your moody sky! I envy all you UK peeps being able to meet up every now and then!
Bill Phillips: It is a fine cathedral Elizabeth and dates back about 1300 years. Being able to meet up is the advantage of living in a country not much bigger than your backyard smile

Yesterday's picture was a toilet! I quite liked it Bill. Glad you had a great time with Graeme and Ely is a fine place to get snapping.
Bill Phillips: It is indeed. Mind you they now charge to go in the cathedral and the old buzzard on the door was most unfriendly!

Yes, Ely's cathedral is known as a very famous church, even mentioned in Pevsner's book "Europäische Architektur' I got once from my parents at my 'Konfirmation'. I like your photo's composition with the look from the teagarden in autumn to the impressive cathedral. Graeme might love your sky, he too is a sky -man.
Bill Phillips: It is a beautiful cathedral. They now charge to go in though which I have mixed feelings about. I know the upkeep is a lot but, as in Worcester, I suspect locals like to just pop in for a quiet 10 minutes and I don't think this encourages that. In Norwich they don't charge but ask very nicely for a donation....
I must get over to Ely myself ... the cathedral is seriously magnificent.
Bill Phillips: £6 for concessions to get in.

Very mood evoking shot Bill, the sky is amazing!
Bill Phillips: I gave the sky a little help Sally. Ely is a magnificent cathedral

A nice teacake eh...you should have taken the king of the tearooms Mr A Rolf with you!

This is a dramatic study of Ely
Bill Phillips: Indeed he would have appreciated it. We also found a fine cafe in Lowestoft for breakfast on the Friday.
Bill this could be the best image you have ever done, but the foreground is way too dark imho.
Bill Phillips: Thanks Mick. It isn't dark on my monitor
Closing up for the day it seems. This is a very nice shot with the dramatic sky.
Bill Phillips: It was lunchtime Mary but not sitting outside weather grin

Never been there but what a great this looks. I wonder if you could leave the sky as it is but lighten the rest of the image?
Bill Phillips: Funny Mick says the foreground is dark but it isn't on my monitor. Worth a visit but they charge to go in now. £7 or £6 for concessions.
A beautiful cathedral Bill and your treatment compliments it very nicely
Bill Phillips: Thank you Janet pleased you like it.

Nice threatening atmosphere to this Bill.

Enough to put the fear of God in you... I guess that was the point of those who built it.

Looks like the chair legs are made from bones!
Bill Phillips: As threatening as the very unfriendly woman who sold us tickets to go in. It used to be free!
Looking at this on my iPad its still too dark.
Bill Phillips: I'll send it to you and you can lighten it and send it back and then I can see what it looks like on my screen.smile
Lots of drama here, Bill, tempered by the tables and chairs.
Bill Phillips: Which Mick says are too dark
Nice garden furniture shot. The big old building in the background is a bit of a distraction.
Good to meet you both the other day.
Bill Phillips: Haha! Yes indeed we enjoyed your company.
Very atmospheric presentation, Bill.
Such a pity that yesterday's was just a toilet - I thought that mayoral robing chamber was a much better idea!
Bill Phillips: All a bit boring wasn't it? Still this cathedral has no such addition

a fine moody image
Bill Phillips: Thanks Paul. It was a bit of a dull day!
Isn't it a wonderful building , inside and out. I like this viewpoint, and what a great sky.
Bill Phillips: It is one of our finest cathedrals for me Brian. i enjoyed you popping up on Skype this afternoon grin
This is a great moody photo of the Ely Cathedral Bill... the heavy clouds compliment this shot very well... the garden chairs are leaning up against the tables tell me that there must have been rain threatening....petersmile
Bill Phillips: It was overcast but the rain held off. It made up for it when we were in Norwich though
This cathedral is magnifiscent Bill. I love the atmosphere here!
Bill Phillips: Thank you Richard. Ely is one of our finest... well I think it is smile
This is a very brooding shot. Good angle.
Bill Phillips: Cheers David. Brooding describes it for me!
