An afternoon in Aberystwyth 1 of quite a lot

Aberystwyth is the principal holiday resort and administrative centre of the west coast of Wales. It is also home to the University of Wales Aberystwyth and the National Library.
The town is nestled between three hills and two beaches, and hosts some castle ruins, a pier and a harbour. The surrounding hills hold the visible remains of a iron age fort and also a monument to Wellington and once climbed offer stunning views of Cardigan Bay.

A very forward looking seat.
Bill Phillips: Best way for them to face generally speaking Graeme
A mystery writer (I forget who) wrote a book called Last Tango in Aberystwyth. This may or may not be relevant.
Bill Phillips: Malcolm Pryce. A very funny book.

Its a good-looking wall, Bill...pity some anonymous "artist" has defaced it thusly...
Bill Phillips: Graffiti....it's everywhere Ray
nice find. i wonder what would the design intent have been behind this? definitely not to protect from rain. one seated on this bench would need to peek out and ensure no pedestrian is upon him/her before deciding to stand and exiting the alcove
Bill Phillips: There are a series of these set into the wall and I think they tell a bit of the history of the town
Very nice spot to relax then, surrounded by all the history and knowledge!
Bill Phillips: Lot of history here Elizabeth.

Definitely my kind of place, Bill. I was just telling Astrid the other day that one day I'd love to see more of Wales!
Bill Phillips: Helen and Andy were having a holiday in Wales with Andy's sister and her family and his brother. We dropped them off and went to Aberystwyth for the afternoon. Wales is lovely but it does rain a lot!!!

a fine bench for rainy days - or doesn't it rain in Wales? - and for some tête-à-tête. Nr. 1 of 1277?
Bill Phillips: It rains a lot in Wales Philine!
I can't stand irrelevant graffiti ... After all we know trhat is Aberystwyth and we know that you took it.
This seat and artwork, flagging up the town, wasn't there when I visited in 1967.
Bill Phillips: Who poked you in the eye this morning? Miserable old bugger.

Haven't been there for years, Bill - so I will enjoy your "quite a lot"
Bill Phillips: It had become very run down but there has been a fair bit of renovation in recent times.

I see you have adorned this picture in Welsh blue
Bill Phillips: I thought this series deserved a title picture. Hopefully it will drive Shaw over the edge by the time it is finished.
I have a feeling this is going to be a bad week, your skill at going to places and coming back with naff images holds no bounds.
Bill Phillips: This is a) going to be more than a week and b) all your worst nightmares. Enjoy grin

Great shot, this bench comes in so handy when it rains. I think Aberystwyth is a beautiful city.
Bill Phillips: It has a fine University and has benefited from some renovation in recent years

What the hell do you want to go there for Bill when Bath is just down the road.
Bill Phillips: Helen and Andy were having a holiday in Wales, near Towyn and we dropped them off and spent the afternoon in Aberystwyth. Ange had never been there and I got a nice long series of pictures that should numb the brain nicely.

Perfectly acceptable to title the opening image of presentation ;o)

Is that a special "postcard" font?
Bill Phillips: I thought the font suited the picture. Stand by for quite a bit of choccie box Mike!!
very cozy to me
Bill Phillips: I agree Juan Carlos
A nice spot to sit Bill.....I think I've been here, but I'll have to wait and see more of your series smile
Bill Phillips: It was a long while since i had been
I really would like to go to Wales. I might have to study to learn how to talk there though.
Bill Phillips: I am hopeless at Welsh place names. The language is actually phonetic once you know the sounds of some of the letters and a few combinations of letters like a double l. Despite all that I still can't get my head around it!!

Does the Vale of Rheidol Railway start from Aberystwyth, too? I can remember it when it was still owned by BR or whatever it was called then.
Bill Phillips: I just looked it up and it does. i had totally forgotten that!
very nice
looks very quaint
Bill Phillips: It is a town with a lot of history Rob
This first image and your description of the town has really peeked my interest, Bill. Looking forward to seeing 'quite a lot' more of it.
Bill Phillips: You will certainly see the seafront which is the best bit really

I know it well. Some good eating places alsosmile
Bill Phillips: Ange had set her heart on fish and chips by the seaside, so we bought some from a seafront place and ate them sat on the sea wall! Actually they weren't bad.
I fell like sitting in this cosy niche Bill!
Bill Phillips: Nice place to watch the world go by Richard
This bench looks like a nice place to sit and catch the afternoon sun Bill... i am looking forward to your follow up photo to show us some of the charm of west coast of Wales....petersmile
Bill Phillips: I hope you will enjoy it Peter
Is that better than a day in Denbigh, a week in Welshpool
or even a month in Monmouth ?
