One of Thomas Telford's other bridges

The bridge at Holt Fleet over the river severn is a grade 2 listed structure and was designed by Telford and opened in 1828. it has a span of 150 feet (46 metres). It has recently been strengthened again as it carries considerable traffic, some of very heavy. (Well I used to travel to work this way)

Elegant low arch...I like this style of bridge very much, Bill.
Bill Phillips: Elegant is the word Ray.
this is a great view point
Bill Phillips: Thanks Ayush. It was the first time I had ever seen it from below although I have crossed it hundreds of times in the car
Very pretty with the flowers in the frame!
Bill Phillips: apparently they are an invading foreign weed!!
The shooting angle creates an interesting contortion to the arch.
Bill Phillips: Thank you Richard. Handsome structure isn't it?

And I have never seen a picture of this before, or even heard of Holt Fleet. Something for me to catch up on - thank-you, Bill
Bill Phillips: It is near Ombersley crossing the Severn. A lot of traffic comes this way as an alternative route to Worcester and from the other way heading for the M5 so it is a busy bridge

I am not familiar with this bridge: a very fine example of Telford's work
Bill Phillips: Just past Ombersley, crossing the Severn. I had never been underneath it before and it is an impressive bridge

Bridge Monday Bill ;o) I find the best bridges (new and old) are always elegant and this example has a delicate spring across the Severn. Fine photo
Bill Phillips: Actually bridges is an area where many modern ones are very fine.
Great angle to capture this Bill.
Bill Phillips: Thanks Peter. Pleased you like it
I like the POV emphasising the reach, Bill. Nice shot with those flowers too smile
Bill Phillips: Thanks Martin. The do set it off rather well
A very elegant construction, Bill - nice pov.
Bill Phillips: It is a bridge I have never really appreciated before Tom, until I saw it from here

This is magnificently captured by your fine camera skills BillThe vegetation in front contrasts well with the brick and iron, and the curve of the bridge is shown beautifully, like Greek goddess.
Bill Phillips: I can't feign modesty Chad as every word you have written is true.

Not like the Ironbridge, then, Bill? smile I love your POV and beautiful flowers.
Bill Phillips: Telford produced a basic design for a series of bridges over the Severn. This one was originally strengthened in 1928 when the lower ironwork was basically encased in concrete. The bridge was strengthened again last year and by the look of it the concrete has been redone. Happily the bridge still looks good

Wonderful POV. Sometimes it is good to get out of the car and start walking. It gives a different POV.
I google Thomas, he has done a lot of work.

Bill Phillips: He was a busy lad. This was where we started the walk from that i showed last week and under the bridge you can see the Holt Fleet pub where we all had lunch.
The wildflowers beautify the image of the bridge and give the whole scene balance, Bill. Well done!
Bill Phillips: Thank you Beverly, I'm pleased you like it.
A beautiful and elegant piece of work Bill. Very nicely captured!
Bill Phillips: Thank you very much Richard
It's not unlike the Victoria Bridge on the Severn valley railway although wasn't a Telford one.
Bill Phillips: Bewdley road bridge over the Severn is one of his though Brian

Hahha... I'm sure that they are people much heavier than you smile I know this bridge; it's next to the pub, I believe.
Bill Phillips: It is indeed and we ate there after our walk I featured last week. The food was Ok but it wasn't the friendliest of places
A lovely structure...
Rather fine Bill
Good view of a typically elegant piece of engineering, Bill.
Bill Phillips: He knew a thing or two about building bridges
