Classic
Bill Phillips: Thanks matesmile
This is way out there Bill... it's like a modern caveman's home... great composition....petersmile
Bill Phillips: That is basically what it is Peter. The people who lived in them took great pride in their homes
Fascinating place! It is like a cave isn't it!
Bill Phillips: It is a cave Elizabeth. They cut into the sandstone and on some built a brick façade. If they needed more room they just excavated a bit further!

Great stove too.
Wonderful picture, love the B&W.

A fascinating insight in to the way the inhabitants lived. I wonder if the houses would be cool in summer and relatively warm in winter.
Bill Phillips: They were indeed. Probably compared with a lot of houses in the 19th century they were quite comfortable and roomy

Sat in the chair by the range looks like the place to be!
Bill Phillips: With a mug of tea toasting some crusty bread
Rather homely Bill. I said cave because you said care and I thought that riotously hilarious.
Bill Phillips: OH I SEEEEEEEE......Haha

Thanks for introducing this place to us, Bill
Bill Phillips: It is not far from us but it had been a few years since we went. Some good walks to be had but on the day we went it was actually TOO HOT!!

Thought this was b/w when I first looked at it! Don't think I would fancy living there much - it feels a bit oppressive, but obviously very ingenious.
Bill Phillips: Actually they aren't. They are quite light and the ceilings are fairly high. Compared with a lot of 19th century squalor these were really quite desireable

Comfy-looking cave, Bill.
Bill Phillips: I wouldn't mind one as a holiday home Ray
This is a great shot Bill, I really like the almost monochrome effect, and the light from the candle is wonderful.

Nice light Bill and I like your processing in this series!
Bill Phillips: Thanks Fred. I felt like a change after all those pig pictures grin
I suppose you could raise the ceiling from time to time smile
Bill Phillips: But not too much as there were houses above!
Great lighting and atmosphere Bill smile
Bill Phillips: Thanks very much Martin
I'll have the rag rug.
