I have bought a Holga lens that fits on the front of any DSLR. It cost £11.99 which included shipping from Hong Kong. Totally manual and it is difficult to see a lot through the viewfinder. Great fun!

inspired by anniedog? Yes, there is a lovely Holga feel of old times -when the world seems to be still in order like on your idyllic´, picturesque picture.
I can convert pics to Holga pics by just one Picasa click- but mostly I return to the original, candid shots.
Bill Phillips: Well yes to be quite truthful and I was curious to use a lens that was designed to produce this sort of image without twiddling. It seems to work best on closer up images where it vignettes more. Great fun

I noticed you have a great sense of direction. You pointed into the right direction.
This must be fun and for that cost, I think you can afford it grin. A fun toy.
Bill Phillips: Great fun and for £12 you can't really go wrong. I have it on the front of my old Pentax now and am going to play around with the camera settings to try and get the full effect.

I just hope, that as you walk backwards or forwards to get the best shooting angle, and whilst not seeing a lot through your viewfinder, that uou don't fall in the canal.
Mind you, that would be fun for us and parallel the fun you are having with the lens that was made in some far eastern sweat factory.

I am guessing that Mrs Dog will be appalled at this willful bypassing of smelly chemicals, hours in the darkroom and the uncertainty that it will come out at all! Go for it!

..and the point of it is...? To make photos appear slightly like looking through thin tissue paper?

This could produce some interesting images, focus apart I like the place you have photographed.

Bill Phillips: Whatever happened to them? Lensbaby photographs were everywhere and now they seem to have vanished!
It's wonderful to see someone derive such joy from a new toy, Bill. Your excitement is infectious. Very nice result, too.

Despite my long absence from SC I feel compelled to comment! A Holga lens for a DSLR is a travesty - completely misses the point of the Holga, which is the delight in using a piece of rubbish plastic kit to produce images with atmosphere and mystery. All this seems to do is make the image a bit blurry round the edges. Where are the light leaks, the strange colour combinations, the sense of looking through the wrong end of a telescope?! The beauty of the Holga is that it uses film and embraces the serendipitous moment. Take that away and all you have is a poor man's Hipstamatic!

Bill Phillips: Hehehehe! Early days yet Ingrid. The biggest problem is the DSLR sensor's desire to do a good job even with a piece of plastic on the front. The series this week was taken on my current camera but I now have the lens on my old one and am going to experiment with the settings of the camera to see what I get. In theory, if the lens is a genuine Holga, and the name is embossed on the lens cap and printed on the lens, then it should be able to produce strange images with a little care. The one thing it can't do is light leaks.

Anyway it is all your fault because i liked your Holga pictures so wanted to see if this would give something similar. Not there yet by a long way but time will tell.
