The beautiful game 11/ 11

The last word has to go to Kevin Keegan

"As long as no-one scored it was always going to be close".

At the time of writing (Sunday) Bolton midfielder Fabrice Muamba is fighting for his life after collapsing with a cardiac arrest during the FA cup quarter final against Tottenham Hotspur. This popular young player, only 23, is now in intensive care and I hope that the news of his condition will be better today.

Lovely climactic image, Bill.
Bill Phillips: Thank you Ray
This is a great photo to finish the beautiful game theme Bill... but it is spooky what happened to Fabrice Muamba yesterday... my prayers are with him... he is much too young for this....petersad
Bill Phillips: Thank you Peter. Everyone is hoping he will pull through. That he is young and fit is in his favour. It is unlikely he will ever play football again though

Great still life to go with the tragic news of that young man. News like this, always strikes me. The medical staff of Bolton was not able to foresee this.
Bill Phillips: They do monitor players for congenital conditions but this was clearly totally unforeseen. He is a popular young player with a young family so everyone wishes him the best

There's a melancholy to this image, Bill, knowing this is the last of the series and that such a young man is so severely injured. I hope you will have good news for us as the day wears on.
Bill Phillips: On the news this morning he is still in intensive care and anaesthetised. Fingers crossed he makes it.

Good photo Bill We all think heart attacks happen to old and unfit people not true
Bill Phillips: We do indeed and this is a salutary reminder that it isn't the case. It apparently took 2 hours to get his heart beating on it's own. He is being kept anaesthetised and the next 24 hours are probably critical

Yes, the game is up -on the picture - and the last news sounds very sad. Let#s hope the best for him!
Bill Phillips: They are saying the next 24 hours are critical. He is a very popular young player

Football philosophy is always some of the most entertaining drivvel one is ever likely to hear. Pity about the bloke who collapsed, he's lucky to be alive

This picture is terrible
Bill Phillips: A very sad occurrence

No it isn't
I am sure the young man will pull through unlike your images.
Bill Phillips: That would be a good outcome

I do so hope he survives, Bill
Bill Phillips: The latest news is encouraging Elisabeth
Good old Kev' he always has a way with words. I think we need goal line technology in the case you show here Bill. Finally my congratulations on a very good series. Back to rubbish now eh?
Bill Phillips: My pictures will be of the same high standard as Kevin's pearls of wisdom

On Kevin - it will all end in tears!

on Fabrice - time for some good news so let' hope it comes his way, fingers crossed.
Bill Phillips: He seems to be making some progress so hopefully he will make it
Hell! We never know what is just round the corner to hit us hard ... I hope he recovers and can lead a normal life again.

You made a big effort with this series and you should considerate it a great success. But I guess with comments like yours on my posting today it will be back normal service as usual. I'm looking forward to it. :-(
Bill Phillips: The last I heard he is making some progress.
Thank you for your kind comment on this series which was indeed a serious effort. Sadly it all goes downhill from now on

Love those words of wisdom from KK. Getting ready to pack up for whacking ball with bats, or I believe that is the theory anyway. It was sad to here of Muamba, not something expected in the young and fit.
Bill Phillips: Mr Keegan is a one off! It sounds as though Muamba is making some progress

A great finish with the ball still in the balance!
Bill Phillips: They think it's all over.....it is now
I guess the bucket is the one with the magic sponge in.
Bill Phillips: They use sprays these days...something to do with health and safety I think Brian
