Balloon Man

This is dear old Droitwich. Much mocked by some shutterchance members but now known world wide as the fun capital of Worcestershire. Here a man is offering balloons to the crowds who are just out of picture on the right. The thriving cafe society of the town can clearly be seen as they sup their Vimto and discuss the burning issues of the day.

Isn't that Lord Winsome, the inventor of the dual purpose party balloon/condom?

If he lives there it is no wonder Droitwich has become a swinging, happening place!
Bill Phillips: I think he was selling implants Ray
You gotta like a photo of the "fun capital" of anything!!
Bill Phillips: Wall to wall excitement in Droitwich Elizabeth

I am really taken aback at this picture Bill: I never realised they had quite so much fun in Droitwich. Apart from that you have produced a very agreeable composition here
Bill Phillips: That is because you only ever visit when it is raining Chris

He reminds me of a Wal-Mart greeter in the States, Bill. smile I see you have your work all cut out for you in the years to come. smile With a smile on your face, of course.
Bill Phillips: do Wal-Mart try and discourage customers then Ginnie?

I belong to the fan club of Droitwichers! Such a caritatively active town - I assume the balloons are offered by the Lion's Club - and the colours testify loyality to Britain! What a nice flower carriage -and no hectic, silly streetlife like in ...
Bill Phillips: I would love to show you round one day Philine.

Tasteful in all aspects, Bill
Bill Phillips: Well we are in Worcestershire Elisabeth, home of Elgar and A E Houseman (Mind you neither of them came from Droitwich)

I agree with Tiff, these people are having more fun than anyone has ever had in the history of the town. I suspect that the man is planning to buy enough balloons to lift him up and away to freedom.
Bill Phillips: He could go to Bath which regularly features in the 100 crap towns list wink
The place where time stands still, reassuringly quiet and peaceful.
Bill Phillips: Or you could say Moribund Martin
Looks like a pretty fun place to be with the camera. Shame about the "Silver box" spoiling the view, but never mind. You can't have everything.

I'll have to check the bus and coach companies and see if any of them run a 2-day trip to your fun capital.
Bill Phillips: If you do Sheila it would be a great pleasure to show you round!

The silver box is a pull up banner

I hope he got someone else to blow them up!
Bill Phillips: His demeanour suggests he had to do it himself Mike
You are a good ambassador for your town, Bill.
Bill Phillips: We have lived here for over 30 years Mary and it is home. We have a lot of friends here and are involved with a lot of things. There are far worse places to live!
Ah! The backbone of conventional British traditionalism. Part of Mr C' Big Society I suspect.

I notice that he isn't wearing a tie ... What would his mother think ... bless her soul.
Bill Phillips: Strewth Richard, he's only giving out balloons
This will have the tourist flocking into Droitwich Bill.
Bill Phillips: Actually when they had the canal reopening last year the town was heaving! Never seen anything like it. There are a number of events during the year and people do generally seem to turn out in good numbers. Nothing better to do perhaps? grin

I shall not mock grin It looks a charming place, not to busy and still have vacant chairs to sit at to sup Vimto!! I really do like the look of the buildings smile
Bill Phillips: It is quite a nice town and now the canal has reopened it will, hopefully, attract more visitors
I like this a lot Bill, it has a tension, the feeling that something is about to happen.
Bill Phillips: Perhaps on of his balloons will burst wink
Well this little corner of Droitwich looks quite pleasant Bill.
Bill Phillips: It is Brian, ahead is the High Street and behind is Waiteose

My introduction to Droitwich is promising Bill smile this is a fine shot, full of character!
Bill Phillips: Ignore the Bath boys, Droitwich is very pleasant!
Nice sense of irony Bill and processing to boot!
Bill Phillips: hehehehe!
Is this to do with 'awareness' re the French breast implants all going wrong I wonder, Bill. Perhaps the lady with the handbag is bringing something back?
Bill Phillips: It pre-dates that Neil but that is exactly what crossed my mind when I was digging through the archive!
I like this picture of a nice little town Bill... where life seems to slowdown and the people enjoy receiving a balloon from a fine old gent....petersmile
Bill Phillips: It ain't a bad place to live Peter smile

How dare SCers mock such a delightful place. It;s obviously very popular with the young folk of the town. I like your response to Ginnie.
Bill Phillips: It is just because Bath is in the 100 crap towns list and Droitwich isn't.
Very nice quiet and peaceful place Bill! The parasol seems to be a French flag...
Bill Phillips: We quite often have a French Market Richard, perhaps they borrowed it off them!

I'm cancelling my trip to Paris - its Droitwich for me
Bill Phillips: Wise choice Paul
This place looks all go, not like the sedentary streets of Bangkok. In Perth this would be a big day out, balloons and all... totally relate-able

Rob
Bill Phillips: Perhaps Droitwich should twin with Perth Rob
