These people amaze me. In Italy we saw many examples of restoration at work - pain staking.

Skilled work indeed: the NT must have an army of people thus capable
Bill Phillips: Great skill and they do have a lot of people who spend their time cleaning stuff to protect it from pests!

Every timne I see one of the experts at work I think back, with a shudder, to the way I cleaned the oil painting of my father using soapy water and a nauil brush.
Bill Phillips: Probably not a good idea to do it again

I cleaned two of my grandfather's paintings with a dishcloth and washing-up liquid. Oddly enough, it doesn't seem to have hurt them
Bill Phillips: I clean my painting like like mind you dulux emulsion is supposed to be washable
The results are always so revealing.
Bill Phillips: some really blackened pictures come up vibrant with colour when cleaned by experts. I would love to do something like that

This is an interesting photograph of someone totally engrossed in their work. Must be very satisfying.
Bill Phillips: I would happily do work like this.
Nice to see a restorer at work Bill
Bill Phillips: A job with great satisfaction. I would love to do it
Now there's a job that requires patience!
Bill Phillips: totally absorbing too i would think.
If I had the skill and patience, I would love to do this work. Nicely captured, Bill.
Bill Phillips: Me too. I would probably have the patience but i doubt I would ever have the skill
They spend hours doing this sort of thing don't they.
Bill Phillips: Indeed they do and it must be very satisfying work

A very delicate job. If it were me, I'd just bung in the washing machine or something - far quicker. It's only some old thing, anyway.

Looking through those magnifiers she in the earth moving business.
I've not got anywhere near the patience required for this sort of thing. An interesting reportage picture, Bill.
Very interesting shot Bill, and cleaning paintings like that makes an amazing different.
Maurice had a pair of those goggles once - they made a huge, and frightening, difference.
