Online help

I use smartstamp when i send books on amazon. It saves trips to the podst office or buying lods of stamps of different values. The Post office has revamped their website and now smartstamp doesn't want to work! So I tried their online help. This was the result

In case you can't read it

You asked: Why doesn't smartstamp work

Do you mean: Can you tell me more about smartstamp

you asked: It doesn't work

Do you mean: do you have a vacancy?

You asked: No i want to know why it doesn't work

Do you mean: What should i do if I am having problems with my redirection?

you asked: I never mentioned redirection

do you mean: Can you tell me more about smartstamp?

You asked: I want smart stamp to work

Do you mean: can you tell me more about smartstamp

You asked: Forget it

Do you mean: I'm having problems logging into your website

You asked: This isn't getting us anywhere

Sorry: I don't understand what you mean. Please try searching again

Not like the good ole days of steam-powered Post Offices, is it, Bill.

You know...I would not be surprised if "Sarah" is not even her real name.

What is Plan B...duct tape the books to the legs of Homing Pigeons?
Bill Phillips: i received an email from Smartstamp with the following words of advice
"Until SmartStamp® becomes available, customers with urgent mailings can take their mail to their nearest Post Office branch"
They failed to mention your plan B
Great capture Bill! Everything is going to be online eventually. Some places make it mandatory that you only do business with them online. smile
Bill Phillips: I am all for doing things online but this sort of thing is fairly useless
About par for the course these days Bill, Artificial Intelligence in a definite oxymoron.
Bill Phillips: She is brighter than some of the footballers being interviewed on the television
I have had similar exchanges over the phone with so-called artificial intelligence. There are a lot of bugs left in the system
Bill Phillips: It is clearly a very limited intelligence Larry

a totally strange field for me! Never heard of, never used, I'm a little confused!
Bill Phillips: It is a service offered by the Royal Mail. Very useful for my online book sales as I can add the postage at home by printing off the value of postage required. saves buying lots of different stamps. It was a nuisance having to take the parcels to the post office

This is an absolutely brilliant composition: it shows the sort of thing which is meant to be clever but sends us all to an early grave in frustration.

I hope the fault it temporary
Bill Phillips: Ironically it is now working again. However, during the hiatus I received a very helpful email from Smartstamp telling me "Until SmartStamp® becomes available, customers with urgent mailings can take their mail to their nearest Post Office branch" Of course I would never have thought of that for myself
But I like going to the Post Office to collect my old age pension and having to wait in a queue for half an hour listening to other pensioners discussing the terrible rise in the cost of living. Ithink Cameron should get out a bit more and do a similar thing . What do you think comrade.
Bill Phillips: Ithink Post offices are one of the most depressing places on the planet. I doubt Cameron has ever been in one

Did you mean: My mother can't find her pudding basin so there will be no Christmas pudding this year?
Bill Phillips: I see you are familiar with the Post office website Chad.
Can you tell ME more about Smartstamp. I don't know what it is.
Bill Phillips: LOL! Smartspamp is a really useful idea. I have a bit of software that they sent me from the post office. This is linked to their website where I can buy credit and then use the software to print a stamp. The diferent postal rates are programmed in and all i have to do is weigh the item and select the value. The stamp can be printed onto a normal inkjet label and stuck to the parcel. This has been very helpful to me when selling books on amazon as they are all different weights and sizes so if i didn't have smartstamp I would have to go to the post office every time or buy stamps of loads of different values and keep looking up the rates. So I was miffed when it went down. Happily today it has been restored!

I used to do some freelance work on post office marketing, I have to say this does not surprise me at all.
Bill Phillips: I loved the advice I got in a n email from them!
"Until SmartStamp® becomes available, customers with urgent mailings can take their mail to their nearest Post Office branch"

I see your post office Sarah has an intelligence of our South Carolina beauty queen (and almost as pretty too)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lj3iNxZ8Dww
Bill Phillips: The video is priceless Viktor! Miss South Carolina wins by a mile in the vacuous stakes grin

Do not get me started on this kind of thing, it is sooooooooooo frustrating!! It happens on the phone too!! smile
Bill Phillips: Press one for sales 2 for accounts 3 to be ignored completely 4 to be cut off and so on!
I think you came up with a brick wall Bill
Bill Phillips: The good news is that smartstamp is now working again grin
But how could you go to a Post office, they've shut nearly all the bloody things down!
Bill Phillips: Actually we have one about 10 minutes walk from home, but i know what you mean Brian

So, can you tell me more about Smartstamp? I'm sure I've spoken to people with the same level of understanding and help as Sarah. I also have similar trouble with voice (non-)recognition systems.
Bill Phillips: I will refer you to the answer i gave to Mary grin I wonder when these organisations will start to realise just how much we all hate the stupid systems they have to avoid communicating properly.
Oh my gosh I was laughing out loud reading this!!! Thanks for the laugh!
Bill Phillips: I am always happy to give people a laugh Elizabeth
Wonderful! The technology doesn't quite hack it yet! Never heard of Smartstamp!
Bill Phillips: It is actually very useful. A bit like a franking machine on your computer
Dealing with 'Sarah' must have been frustrating as hell, Bill, but the way you have presented it makes it quite amusing as well. Although, if it were me on the receiving end, I may not have been smiling.
