The Hive progress report

Well the much awaited Hive in Worcester is progressing and now has a golden bridge to take people safely over the road.

We are off to Sheffield today taking in a couple of Natinal trust properties on the way. Ange has discovered she has ancestors who were cutlers. This is a worrying development as it means she has Yorkshire blood and my mother was from Lancashire.....this could mean war!

The color on these buildings is really good Bill, and I can see why the golden building is called the hive.
Bill Phillips: My daughter Helen will be working here when it opens as the University library will be incorporated with the public library.

This new geneological knowldge should spice your lives up a bit, Bill.
Bill Phillips: It doesn't bode well
A yellow brick road! Off to see the wizard?
Bill Phillips: The hive has attracted much comment locally. some people like it but others do not. I think it is a hideous eyesore
The Hive sort of stands out in its surroundings Bill... is that why they still have some of the wrapping around itgrin....petersmile

About Ange's ancestry.... just say "that's OK"... and keep smiling when you say itgrin
Bill Phillips: These tiles are really good on a sunny day. The light reflects off them and dazzles passing motorists.

'Progress' is always good and needed in our times! Hive looks a bit extravagant in these honest surroundings, Hive or Hype? -
I wish an educative, lovely day out. I had to know more about English history to understand your danger of war - War of the Roses -I remember vaguely - but Ange is an angel and you are such a dear husband!
Bill Phillips: This building does not represent progress. The students are only just starting to realise that they will not have their own separate library. They think the existing library on the campus, which is on the other side of the river will remain open. It will not and they will have a 20 minute walk to get to the new library, only to find the book they want has been loaned to a member of the public.

It's good to see how well it blends in with its surroundings; all I can see is some hideous yellow thing wink

Enjoy your trip "oop north".
Bill Phillips: bit of National trust and a visit to the millennium museum in Sheffield.

That yellow thing has sprung up in Worcester. I think it might be a joke

Ahh yes: this is lovely modern Worcester if I'm not mistaken. Remind me never to visit!
Bill Phillips: The best thing in Worcester (apart from the Cathedral and the cricket ground) is Valentino's a very good Italian restaurant. Oh and my daughter Helen's house which is very nice
I don't read reports anymore. Someone has blacked out, in in my Road Atlas, where Worcester should be ... are they trying to tell me something.
Bill Phillips: Sounds like friendly advice Mr Trim

My 'Angie' and I are having war, without knowing where our blood came from. Knowing about blood should make no difference, so keep all peace treaties in place.
Bill Phillips: The wars of the roses never end but we don't fight!

More like a golden chimney flue for a wood burning stove!
Bill Phillips: Hahahaha. Excellent description Mike

I thought the Worcester Sauce would be the best thing, worldwide- known and absolutely essential -it must belong to the UNESCO global food heritage! Do you know anything about the gutteridge at the Hive?
Bill Phillips: It doesn't seem to have any Philine and will probably leak
Reminds me a bit of a modern built fireplace from this angle, Bill.
Bill Phillips: I can see what you mean!

Looks like a giant honeycomb! I don't think I like the stupid-looking roof.
Bill Phillips: Some say the roof is supposed to be a representation of the Malvern Hills, others a pottery kiln. I think that it was either designed by a committee or the architect was pi$$ed when he drew it

A lovely modern building which Worcester can be proud of. The material of the 'skin' looks lively and sunny, the colour echoing the string courses of the adjacent building. They remind me a bit of kilns.
Bill Phillips: some say that is the idea others that they represent the Malvern hills. I agree more with Ingrid.
I hold comment on "The Hive" until you show us the completed building. I hope you managed to look at a couple of my local NT properties on the way through and enjoyed them.
Bill Phillips: We went to Calke and Kedleston and enjoyed both Brian. I think you are fence sitting with regard to the hive smile
How long are you in Sheffield, Bill?
Bill Phillips: We were only there this morning. Got soaked! Had a nice lunch of home made beef and dumpling stew served in a Yorkshire pudding (Not a dish you often see in an Italian Restaurant) Then a ride on the tram and back home!
Beverly thought the same thing as me. Perhaps it is a Canadian fireplace (from the 60's) that we remember.
Bill Phillips: I can see the connection. Mike (Blackdog) said it looks like something from a wood burning stove!
What a great sound track, not sure the marketing boys will want to use it though.
Bill Phillips: The Richard Harris song is off his second LP of Jimmy Webb songs. Th music with the hive video is original.. well sort of
