flower 15/948

There was a bank of these. I have no idea what they are but they looked very pretty.

Today is Tiffo's birthday. It is also the birthday of an old friend of mine Mary Mottershead. She is younger than Tiffo and much better looking.

I just like this song. Saw Neil diamond in the 70s and he was very very good!

Although having looked into Collins nature guide 'Wild Flower of Britain&Europe' (recently bought in Waterhead/Wintermere) I, sorry, cannot determine this flower (I remember it as 'Trümmerblume' in my childhood) -it could belong to the orchid family -but Chris may give quite more precise information- and for him in particular you posted this lovely purple summer picture! A nice weekend for you and your family. Summer heat has returned here - and Chris' Dutch friends are more than happy!
Bill Phillips: I will ask his opinion Philine

the flower could be Lythrum salicaria, salvia pratensis or epilobium angustifolium (the latter ones are lining up the roads in the Lake district now)- only botanicus Chris is capable to decide what it may be!
Bill Phillips: I have wandered through my copy of Keeble Martin and I thought it might be Larkspur, but I am not convinced!

UPDATE! It is possibly Rosebay willowherb

I had a very pleasant afternoon with Chris (and Ginnie, Astrid and Ellie) yesterday; he did say how much he was looking forward to his birthday wink I like the colours in this; most attractive.

I like Neil Diamond too. BBC4 showed some of his concerts a few weeks ago.
Bill Phillips: Glad you had a nice time. Why doesn't Ellie post any pictures these days?
I love the deep color on this one Bill.
Bill Phillips: It is rather nice Frances
I think this is fire weed. It has certainly made for a lovely, lovely shot.
Bill Phillips: I think it might be Rosebay willowherb Mary. John Prior suggested this and I looked in my copy of Keeble Masrtin and I think he could be right
Gorgeous colour Bill and nice shot
Bill Phillips: Thanks Janet
Nice saturated shot of the Rosebay Willowherb I think smile
Bill Phillips: I think you could well be right John. I have looked in my copy of Keeble Martin and it looks very similar!

Lovely purple
Bill Phillips: It is indeed Jennie
They are very attractive flowers Bill. I was also wondering why Ellie doesn't post these days, I meant to mention at Dudley today but forgot.
Bill Phillips: I must ask Chris
If you were on this side of the pond I would have to agree with Mary- definitely looks like our Fireweed (Epilobium angustifolium), a member of the Evening Primrose Family (Onagraceae)- which I believe your willowherb may be as well? I LOVE Neil Diamond! My mom played him all the time when I was growing up!
Bill Phillips: Epilobium angustifolium is rose bay willowherb here Elizabeth, so it is the same as your fireweed
De très belles nuances de couleurs capturées sur ces fleurs. Beau travail.
