photoblog image Newark Park

Newark Park

Newark Park is a lovely National Trust property high up on the cotswolds near Wotton under Edge. Originally a hunting Lodge the house enjoys magnificent views and on a clear day you can see the Mendip hills in the distance. We went on a guided tour of the garden which was actually very interesting.

Certainly looks pretty, Bill.
Bill Phillips: It was indeed Ray
I love the blossoms on the tree Bill.... and you caught them all .... the walker gives us a good scale to its size....great framing....petersmile
Bill Phillips: Thanks Peter. It is a nice garden to walk round

Oh, Bill, you too did enjoy guided garden tours like I did in the Lake District -at first I thought you had climbed up a tall tree - I like your picture very much- and England is so green here -instead of Wotton u n d e r Edge I would expect the name Wotton a b o v e Edge (I'll notice this place for our Cotswolds garden trip next June- as Gold wills).
Bill Phillips: The garden is quite a steep walk in places but well worth the effort and the views are magnificent

It is indeed a fine place O Wonderkind
Bill Phillips: Thank you young tiffo. I trust our honoured guests are safely installed in the guest wing of Tiff Castle

Oh, sorry: as God wills!
Oh yes, in some gardens there can be "quite a steep walk" as I experienced in the Lakes too- one reason not to take my heavier Nikon with me but my little compact camera!
Bill Phillips: I thought that was what you meant. If you tackled the lake district Newark park will be a doddle (means easy)
Isn't it strange that having an old git, in baseball hat, stuck in the corner of your composition adds that extra ingredient.
Bill Phillips: i prefer to think i placed him there

Not heard of this place before so I'll add this to my listt of places to visit at some point. Miond you, it's taken me 15 years of NT membership to get to The Vyne, just 30 miles from me. So much to do.. so little time.
Bill Phillips: Get you act together! The vyne is very nice

I hated that song. I think RT has lost the plot.
Bill Phillips: So did I especially as half the things would not be found in an English Garden. RT is a splendid chap (it says here)
I love this one Bill. I always think of New Hampshire, with it's wonderful trees, when I see pictures like this one.
Bill Phillips: A friend of mine whose daughter lives in New England says no picture really conveys just how beautiful the autumn colours are there
Really love this shot, Bill. Feel like I am in the park with you.
Bill Phillips: Thanks Mary
Mmm - never heard of that place - must see how far it is.
Bill Phillips: Not far Tom

Looks like it is worth a visit, but I would have clipped that bit of wall bottom left!
Bill Phillips: I suppose I could have cloned it outgrin

That's nice - do they offer bacon butties?
Bill Phillips: I don't think so Louis. But then Clent is closer for me!
Looks and sounds our sort of place Bill. I once stayed overnight in a hotel at Wotton prior to a meeting at Chipping Sodbury the next day, nice place if I recall.
Bill Phillips: I am sure it is Brian. It is a lovely part of the country

Not heard of this one - looks interesting I like the windows.
Bill Phillips: not far away either. I must admit it had slipped under our radar too. Well worth a visit and the volunteers etc were very friendly
