Stairway to Heaven if a shelf of books is your idea of heaven.

This is great!
Bill Phillips: As I spend a lot of my time sorting and selling books these days i suppose it is!
I like this composition! The detailed carving is beautiful- don't find anything like that anymore.
Bill Phillips: I believe it was made out of bits from other stairs
What great craftsmanship went into building these rolling library stairs is as beautiful and your presentation of it....petersmile
Bill Phillips: The lady room attendant very kindly offered to move it for me so that I could take this picturesmile

Very different to usual type of ladder used in some DIY stores to get to higher shelves that's for sure! The carvings are beautiful. I wonder what the H&S do-gooders would make of those wheels on the wooden floors?
Bill Phillips: total ban unless fitted with elaborate brakes that have to be inspected every day

There might be some 'stairways to heaven'. but reading and books are one of them - in any case for me -"I have always imagined that paradise will be a kind of library.", the poet Jorge Luis Borges once said -a beautiful detail you have discovered and captured for us!
Bill Phillips: I can think of worse things than paradise being a library...well who wants to play the harp all day? :d
what a craftsman made this!
Bill Phillips: More than one I think as it was made from other staircases

Yes, I remember the very kind 'lady room attendants' ( Now I know the right term!) in the N T houses!
Bill Phillips: Most of them are both knowledgeable and friendly Philine

My Ginny thinks Books are heaven
Bill Phillips: and I would agree with her
A fine set of library steps - I doubt if it was made from spare bits!
Bill Phillips: apparently it was. The room attendant told me that she had a chap visit who was an expert on wood carving and he told her the carvings were clearly the work of two craftsmen from different areas and had come from other work and been made into this set of library steps.
It is a heavenly stairway anyway.
Bill Phillips: It is nice and wouldn't you just love the library to go with it!

Nice photo of this superb stair great shot
Bill Phillips: Thank you very much Noel and thanks too for paying me a visit
If it has been made from an old stair it is a great example of re-cycling, the Coalition would be delighted to see this.
Bill Phillips: Especially if it had been made by unpaid volunteers taking the place of people who had been made redundant grin
Really? That's crazy! Looking at it closer, I guess I can see that. Interesting piece Bill!
Bill Phillips: It is all to do with the way the wood has been carved, I can't remember exactly but to an expert it is almost like a signature
Nice one, Bill. Libraries barely have funds for books these days, let alone fancy steps!
Or perhaps the books on the top shelf, which might be heaven for some smile
