Bits and doings 4

I love glass.

Dipthong

A vowel sound occupying a single syllable, during the articulation of which the tongue moves from one position to another, causing a continual change in vowel quality, as in the pronunciation of a in late, during which the tongue moves from the position of (e) towards (i).

I don't understand a word of this

Utter nonsense, Bill!

But your shot is the goods...did you tipple, while no-one was watching?
Bill Phillips: It was tempting but i reckon they fill them with cold tea!
You're so funny! I remember learning about dipthongs... don't think I ever understood either! I, too, like your photo- the amber glow of the lamp is just perfect to give a little shine to the crystal.
Bill Phillips: If i had the room I would happily collect crystal

This picture reminds me of yesterday's. And I am sitting here trying to eat crunchy Droit-bran Flakes whilst simulataneously making unsuccessful vowel sounds
I hate you
Bill Phillips: That's alright. Hate is better than indifference
great series
Bill Phillips: Thank you very much chantal
A pleasant study to observe Bill whilst we try to do the tongue exercises in our minds.
Bill Phillips: I can't help wondering a) who discovered these tongue movements and b) decided to call it a dipthong.
You love glass ... I love what goes in to it .
Bill Phillips: It is allowed to like both Mr Trim

It is beautiful isn't it. I love it too, this is a great image.
Bill Phillips: It is indeed Scarlet.
Nice glassware Bill. When I was in a choir the conductor kept on about singing our dipthongs correctly, bit late now for me to find out what they are.
Bill Phillips: In a situation like that I would have mimed Brian
It could very well be part of a movie set in a British period drama series, Bill. Fully expect one of the characters to start pouring a sherry from the decanter into the crystal glass.
Bill Phillips: The sun is over the yardarm somewhere in the Empire Carruthers so how about a snifter what?

Careful, Bill. You are in danger of writing at Chris and Chad occasionally do; frequently nothing to do with the image itself!
Bill Phillips: Perhaps there is a deep meaning here that you have missed Alan.

A dipthong sounds like a very daring garment!
Bill Phillips: You are becoming obsessed

They knew how to live in those days. Love the rich deep colours. I hope no-one was looking through the window and saw me practicing my dipthongs while sat at the computer just now! It is in fact quite correct - try saying the word late without moving your tongue and you'll find out!
Bill Phillips: Well a few of them did anyway.
I am glad you are practising your dipthongs Ingrid. When you say late the tongue starts behind the top front teeth, drops to the bottom for the a and goes back for the t in a percussive manner. so where does this i and e bit come in?
Nicely accomplished still life, Bill
Bill Phillips: Thank you kindly Tom
excellent atmosphere captured
Bill Phillips: Thanks very much Ayush
Like the way you've caught the light on the glasses.
Bill Phillips: Thanks Graeme. More luck than judgement
