Huh! A Mobile lighthouse! Doesn't that sort of defeat the purpose?
Bill Phillips: Very useful for confusing invading fleets

These lightships do serve their purpose, Bill, used in waters that are too deep or otherwise unsuitable for lighthouse construction. I wonder how hard it is to anchor them during rough seas. Nowadays they use automated buoys. Lots of info here:

Bill Phillips: All I know is red ones were owned by Trinity house and blue ones were privately owned

But it's not Friday Bill. Good photograph all the same.
Bill Phillips: So what? Thank you
You really are a wonderful photographer Bill, you get my vote every time. Incidentally I thought at first it was called Saxa, my little dog's name
Bill Phillips: You named your dog after a brand of salt. ou are a star!
An American commander of an aircraft carrier warned the boss of a small ship that was on the the big ship's rada screen to take avoiding action. He repeated the instruction several times with typical American challenging agressive words. Finally the radio operator from the small blob on the rada screen replied ''We're a lighthouse ... the balls in your court.''
Bill Phillips: Hahahahahahahahaha

Actually I have heard it before

A red boat on blue monday? Man, you are stretching the rules.

PS. do you think they serve beer on board?
Bill Phillips: They would for you Louis I am sure
But it's not Friday.
Bill Phillips: Well that is true...but I don't care grin
Great colour red isn't it Bill, where is this moored up?
Bill Phillips: This is Gloucester Dock Brian

Quite a flashy boat, by the look of it. I can image that there was not a lot of fun to be had on board; only the highlight of turning on the light once a day.
Bill Phillips: It was switched on and flashing when I took this but it loses something in broad daylight

Nothing wrong with slap bang in the middle... who says that it is not done....
I love this light-ship.... erm light house is from stones and bricks....
Love the picture.
Bill Phillips: i quite agree. Bang the subject in the middle and lots of colour.
Great stuff. Crisp detail, vivid colour, interesting subject, and slap bang in the middle works fine.
Bill Phillips: Cheers Graeme
Love the primary colours of this shot, Bill. Makes me want to get my crayons out.
Bill Phillips: smile A red boat and a blue sky...hard to resistgrin
