Stott Park Bobbin Mill

This is well worth a visit. It is an English Heritage site and they do guided tours and demonstrations. In it's heyday it produced 250000 bobbins a week for the spinning and weaving industry. It is in Cumbria near Newby Bridge. So bob in and have a look :)

Well composed. I'm no expert on chimneys, but that one seems quite tall for the structure.
Bill Phillips: Thanks Red Pen. I guess the chimney is connected to the fact that the machinery was, at one time, steam powered. (Originally by water wheel later by electric motor).

What an interesting shot. Somehow it looks more like a collage than a natural scene. Don't know why though. Maybe I need glasses.
Bill Phillips: Hi Martin. It's not a collage just a combination of black and white and colour. I was trying to get a sort of hand coloured look.

This has a nice "old" feel to it that matches the wagon wheel. Nicely done. On the chimney, is that a chimney for a bread oven? I've seen those here in Germany too and believe they are part of bread ovens. But I am not chimney expert either! Where is a chimney expert when you need one? smile
Bill Phillips: Thanks Kathryn. Not bread. The chimney may be connected with the steam engine that used to power the machinery here.

Lovely tones in this shot Bill.
Like the stone work.smile
Bill Phillips: Thanks Tracy. They do a really good tour of this place and it is fascinating. We even got a bobbin to bring home!
Lovely crisp shot, Bill! Happy Anniversary, too. (:o)
Bill Phillips: Thanks Ros and Thanks. smile

agree with Ronald's comment on the geometrics... also noticed the wheels complementing each other diagonally smile neat shot, Bill !
Bill Phillips: Thanks Terry. I hadn't noticed that either! I just like picture and the place itselfsmile
This is nice Bill, makes me wanna pack my bags, and go find this very ralaxing place.
Bill Phillips: Thanks Sesan. It's in the lake district, which I don't know well but from what I've seen of it, it is very beautiful.
Nice tones and a great composition Bill - lots of good lines drawing the eye thro the elements within the photograph.
Bill Phillips: Thanks Mike. I always appreciate your comments.
You've done well with your colour fiddling Bill! Very pleasing on the eye!
Bill Phillips: Thank you David. A b&w and colour sandwich

I really like the vertical nad diagonal lines in this. Nice one Bill
Bill Phillips: Thanks very much Paul. Glad you like it.
Interesting treatment Bill with the b/w sky and the rest in colour. It certainly does add that old-fashioned look.
Ingrid
Bill Phillips: Thanks Ingrid. Because the sky was a uniform blue and the clouds a uniform white, when I did a black and white layer and merged it with the colour layer it went to black and white with very little help from me!

I just love going on these kind of tours. Having a peek into history is so much fun.
Bill Phillips: Hello Scarlet. It is fun. Mind you I'm not sure life was much fun for the people who worked here.

A good crisp picture Bill. I have driven past the entrance to this many times but never went in to see it, will have to do so next time. Good finish to the picture as well the combination of B&W and Colour is one of my favourite techniques and you have prodcued a cracker here.
Bill Phillips: Thanks very much Les. This place is well worth a visit.
Interresting image !
Bill Phillips: Thanks again Zeb. It is an interesting place to visit.
