The twiddled image certainly brings out some of the details in shadow. Lovely image, Bill!
Bill Phillips: It does but perhaps loses some of atmosphere
Jolies photos avec les rayons de soleil.
Bill Phillips: Merci bien Martine

The twiddled version is better IMHO. Provided it's not over done adding a bit of extra light does no harm..
Bill Phillips: The twiddled version is what I would normally do , and you're right. Restraint is what is needed.

But sometimes overdoing it is fun

Fake image ... but it works.
Bill Phillips: What is fake image comrade? The only true image is what your eye actually sees
I would prefer the top version but with more detail in the foreground shadows, sorry there's always one who has to be awkward smile
Bill Phillips: I think I see what you mean Brian. This is basically that but taken a bit further than I expect you are thinking
The top image appears more dramatic, Bill, but the twiddled image really brings out the details.
Bill Phillips: I think that is spot on Beverly
I like the drama of the untwiddled.
Bill Phillips: So do I Mary, but I also like to be able to see the detail
